E74 Error

Hooray!

That's awesome. I figured if we held out long enough this might happen.

Hilariously, we found out that every once in awhile the system will actually turn on. There's nothing actually wrong with the graphics processor, there's just some hiccup between the dashboard and the hardware that sometimes makes it think there's something wrong with the GPU. So, any time we're lucky enough to hit the button and see the lights come on, we leave it on for a couple days and play it until we're brave enough to risk our luck the next time we want to play it.

Sweet though.

Until you beat the game, everything you do is "undone" when you save/travel back in time... at least I thought so. What action can you perform that is not erased by the flow of time?

as mega stated..... money xD, and your progress is not lost, every key item you obtain is yours to keep and you don't have to repeat certain story key points again. pretty much all that is important can break the barrier of time :)

Haha, if by "all that is important" you mean "money and things" then yes, I suppose so. I was talking more about the interaction you have with people, the problems you solve for them, and the evil you defeat in temples... it all gets undone (until the very end, of course). Its something that is basically antithetical to the notion of "progress" in a game, in that even though you are making progress, you don't see the effects of that progress in the world around you. Which also may touch on themes of individual perception and whatnot.

Again, very high concept and unique.

i understand what you are saying and you are totally right, Cleared puzzles, keys, and minor items will be lost, and characters will have no recollection of meeting Link, however you as i mentioned you still keep the major Items (and the ones that i liked the most are the 3 major masks... because even the flow of time cannot bring back a soul that was healed... or at least that's how i used to look at it XD). but as you stated, it is more about the progress of the individual.

the reason i enjoyed this formula so much and i would like to see it again in the future is because (as i probably said in another thread before) it allows the player to mess with time itself...... sure you lose most of what you did when you go back to day one but it never meant you were back to square one... is like one of those episodes in certain shows or movies where characters keep living the same day over and over again until they make it the perfect day.... being able to do that in a game was breathtaking for me (plus it was my first 3D Zelda game XD ) i did manage to beat the game and obtain all items and that was one of the most satisfying moments in my gaming life XD

in one of the podcasts you mentioned that the hardware of the N64 was not ready for this type of concept, and as much as i hate to say it.... i agree... is true it was almost impossible to keep track of certain individuals and sometimes their schedule didn't make any sense... but at least nintendo introduced this concept in the best possible way for the N64...hopefully someday they will revive this formula of the time limit and the control of time in a more powerful console.

now why are we talking about an N64 game on a 360 thread XD?

Let's get this one back on track. Microsoft would like to explain what exactly the E74 is. ^_^

E74 Explained

Basically these questions were given to a Microsoft rep and here's their response to each question.

Once a repair is made and a person gets their 360 back, does the clock reset for the extended warranty in regards to this error?

No. The same terms of the three-year warranty associated with three flashing red lights error apply.

We reported in 2007 that Microsoft was reworking their 360s to no longer give the red rings to report certain errors because people were sometimes misconstruing them. Is that the case?
No, that is not accurate.

Can a 360 still get a red ring error, aka the red ring of death?
Yes, the three flashing red lights error message can still be present on the console in the event of certain general hardware failures. We have made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue. The majority of customers who own Xbox 360 consoles have a terrific experience from their first day, and continue to, day in and day out.

Is the e74 code a replacement for the red ring of death?
No. The E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. This issue remains relatively narrow in scope and a very small percentage of our customers have contacted us about this issue. Again, we have already made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue.

But wait. What's with the contradiction? How can an E74 error message apply to the same hardware failures that are associated with a red ring if they're not the same?

"In some cases there is no difference. As we said, the E74 error message and three flashing red lights can in some cases indicate the same general hardware failure. However, it is not the same failure mode in all cases and there is no single root cause for these malfunctions."

So it sounds like there is an overlap between hardware issues that cause the E74 message and hardware issues that cause the red ring of death.
