Epic Games' Shadow Complex on XBLA (MetroidVania clone??)

MegaDrive20XX

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.

It comes out in August, but if you love CASTLEVANIA SOTN and SUPER METROID like gameplay. You may want to keep your eyes open on this badboy. It was shown at E3 and needs some light shed on it.

As awesome as the Ghost in the Shell inspired walking tanks look... Where are you getting "Metroidvania clone"???

:\ Being an avid addict to Castlevania and Metroid (with all the associated sequals), that didn't look much like either to me...

If you look at the video, look at the upper right hand corner of the screen. It uses the same "Super Metroid" format. to explore particular areas and you have to return to them every now and again.

...really?

I just rewatched the video... I don't think having a mini map in the corner is quite enough to remotely compare a game to Metroid III or SOTN (two of the greatest platformers ever!).

Shadow Complex looks more like a 3D Adventure game rather than a 2D Platformer... It doesn't seem like the same genre. That's just my take on it though.

really? to me it looks like the same formula but with a different style, it might not look as good but it does seem to be the same with some different stuff in it

Okay the demo is out right now and ready for purchase.

To describe this game, it's like if Metroid and CONTRA and not like the previous statement I've heard and said.. The action is nuts, but it reminds me of Contra Shattered Soldiers in terms of shooting things in the background or near you. So 2.5D action so to speak.

You still roam around but with a familiar Super Metroid map and item/weapon upgrades too.

Ironically, this is another game that uses the Unreal Technology graphic engine from EPIC Games once again. To put it bluntly, it's the prettiest Super Metroid clone since CastleVania SOTN.
