Seriously, until Hines and maybe Gamingirl/Fire shows up, it'll stay unanimous.

I say no.

I know we've done this before, who voted yes? :lol

The first vote was done a long time ago. Actually, it was when the forum was still relatively young, which is probably why at that time it was decided to keep post counts in the F&G forum. Lemme see if I can find it...

Ok, here we go. The original poll.

Yes, Do it! 4 (30.8%)
No, please don't! 6 (46.2%)
I don't care. 3 (23.1%)

From July 06, 2004. :o

BV's main concern at the time was
would it discourage you all from posting in the gaming sections.... or would you all post more in the gaming sections? Or even without the post count, would you post in Fun and Games as much?

To which I think, maybe at the time it would have been a detriment, but now the rest of the forums IMO are established enough and have enough topics that even if post counts were disabled in F&G, I don't think it would dramatically affect the rest of the forums.

As always though, BV has the final say. ^_^

I've always thought posts in the F&G section should not count towards post count. That way we'll be able to tell who just likes posting there and who only posts there to raise a number on an Internet message board that does nothing at all.

Hm. Post counts don't mean much as it is. And we're debating on whether the F&G post count counts on a count that is supposedly meaningless. Interesting... ::)

It's not that, it's just that I see crap like "The post a letter from the Alphabet game!" or number game threads and I just wonder if the people that constantly post in their would still hang around if we turned off post count from F&G.

It would certainly weed out the dedicated members from the ones just wanting to boost their post count.

Well, post counts are fun to watch grow, it shows your dedication. Not so much when you type out numbers.

Yeah, I'm with Dart on this one. If posts counts really are that meaningless (which they are) then why bother making them count for some forums and not others?

I never post in the F&G forums. Out of all the members here I've got a pretty low post count. I think FHQ, who joined over the summer, is beating me, and I've been here for almost 6 years now. I don't care one way or the other what does or does not apply to someone's post count, because it's a meaningless number to me either way.

I joined in March and only 525 of my posts are in Fun and Games. I don't like that it's that much. And you're like, the 13th or 14th top poster.

I'd have a crap load more posts but I changed user names when we switched over a few years back. Ah well, no big deal.

Well, maybe the opposite is true, and post count does count, and that's why F&G posts shouldn't count, because the posts themselves are not important? While it's true that people aren't their post counts, it does lend some credibility...new members seeing high post counts on other members may not realize that a lot of them were just one-liners and spam in the F&G forum...and on the flipside, might not realize that someone with a low post count is nonetheless a valuable member.

I just think that by disabling post count in the F&G (where it's the most "abused") people might realize that earning respect is not done just through sheer numbers.

That it's not about how often you post, but what you post about that counts.

There is truth to this. Irregardless of how meaningless post counts are to most of us, they are important to some... seeing titles change, and everything else.

Sometimes people see post counts and lenght of time at a board as seniority.

So... saying they are totally meaningless isn't exaclty true. They aren't meaningful to me, but it might mean a little (even if it is a small amount) to someone else. And if it does add to the pleasure of using this board for some members, then I don't want to take that away.

BUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT (that's a big butt), I don't think the stupid counting games and all should count towards anyone's post count. If anyone is going to take "pride" in their numbers... they need post logical post outside F&G (especally in the gaming specific areas).

I think someone should feel good that they contributed a large number of well thought out posts, and logical conversation.

I just used you as an example of how I don't compare my post count with other people (except in this instance, of course). I didn't mean to come across as saying you only post in the F&G, or that I in any way care about the post counts of various members. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear.

I think having a visible "join date" would have the same effect as a large post count.

Ya, that is a better idea..if instead of saying post count it said join date under people's avatars. I think that makes a lot more sense.

Out of my 5915 posts, I would only lose 651 of them if post count in the F&G was disabled. ^_^

But, I like x2's idea. Join date would be a pretty cool stat to have up there.

Wait, would we lose posts already in the F&G area? Hmm.

Can't wait to see Hines's count if that happened.
