It's October. October means Halloween. Halloween means zombies. So, who are your favorite movies full of undead cannibals?
My favorites list:
Dawn of the Dead 2004: This remake of the Romero classic has the "Olympic runner" style zombies. This is my drop dead favorite zombie flick. The characters actually have some depth. The action if phenomenal.
Shaun of the Dead: This Brit humor parody makes fun of so many zombie movie cliches while simultaneously staying true to them. Instant classic fit for any collection!
Diary of the Dead: One of Romero's more recent films, he went back to a roots style approach with a smaller budget, home movie style camera work, a few awkward comedy moments, and underlying social commentary. This is such a great film but too often overlooked.
Zombieland: If you could make Left 4 Dead 2's Dark Carnival chapter into a movie, this would be it. The acting is great, the stated rules of the zombie genre are excellent, and this movie overflows with gore, funny moments, and Twinkies.
Honorable mention:
Resident Evil: As a prequel story to the first RE game, the movie does a decent job. The zombies are pretty decent and the movie sticks to zombies for the duration before getting to weird mutating creatures and corporate conspiracy. This is the only RE movie worth watching IMO. It's inherent cheesiness is salvaged by the excellent soundtrack.
