WII, PS3 AND 360 FTW (also nintendo DS XD)
final fantasy VII was my first RPG, and i thought this game was really groundbreaking, but many people claim and sometimes i think is true that this game is overrated

what do you think?

No. The battles were nothing new, the perspective had been done before, several times on the PC, and I guess the story was a little different, but that's really it.

the only thing i found innovative (beside the story) was the materia, it was a new way to develop characters. but i guess is not so much

There was no other RPG that blended perfect a battle system/story/character relationship like FFVII did. Also, the graphics were far superior to anything we had seen at the time. It set a new standard for RPG's all over. That's just my opinion though.

True (although the battle system was really nothing new), it took a little while for other RPG's to have the kind of character interaction FF 7 did...

More or less, it was well loved for being the first FF game to hit 3D.

C'mon, people flipped over FFX as well.

It was semi inventive for american gamers. The final fantasy games had sprites before they had good old...not sprites...

FF7 had a already been done battle system (with materia being the innovative thing)

The story was pretty overdone. Loner warrior saves the world with band of newfound friends after going through some emotional state.

It was a great game, I'll give it that. But no, it wasn't too innovative. Maybe some of the cg movies were cool. The motorcycle i lusted over >.>

i've been asking myself why square made a cellphone minigame of snowboarding instead of the bike?

lol Good question.

Answer : because steering left and right while jumping for balloons is far more entertaining than steering left and right while hacking away at other riders with a big freaking sword.

Duhhh

I thought the Materia system was really cool. Almost a precursor to XII if you think about it. You could turn anyone into anything with the right Materia. I'm pretty sure I have Cloud as a healer due to the Materia he's equipped with, for example.
