For every 10 Wii's sold, 7 aren't even being played

I would love to know how they came to that number.
Same here.

Maybe somehow it's based off a formula of software sales... or actually... maybe they can tell by who activates and plays them online... which is kinda freaky IMO...

IE they send little blips like cell phones over any antenna or nearby wifi... Don't know how this would work with a locked down Wifi device.

It would work extremely bad, considering the Wii is always online.

Obviously it could send a code back letting them know what is being done on the system. This method would work very well SINCE the Wii is always online. then again... who says it always has to be online? And you can also set it to not be online 24/7.

It wouldn't even have to be a large piece of information... they could just have it send a string of 1's and 0's... and it could find the closest source to send. If the Wii isn't online via Wifi, they make the LAN connector.

Then again... you could still set it to offline.

my point is... maybe there is a way for a Wii to send a blip out when it's being played, and they track it by that method... or another method Nintendo devised. Who would suspect it? and how easy would that be to take a census of Wii systems? ::D

All it would take is a single packet, the size of a single bit would be sufficient. They could simply ping your Wii. Provided it's even connected to the network or that you even have an IP assigned to it. There are many ways you could prevent them quite easily.

They probably ask the cockroaches, now that I think about it.
Ever seen the X-files episode with the metal Cockroaches? :lol

and hines... ftw?

@ polygon... sure there would be many ways you could prevent it. you and I could, but not your average user of the Wii. But say the signal was outgoing... not incoming (Your local system sends a a signal out to Nintnedo). Then what could you do to stop it... without altering the programming of the Wii? I guess you could (on the wireless router) make it block the communication once you found where it was going out.

... It would be crazy if it was blocked on 1 router that the system searched for another communication path.

FTW= For The Win

Yeah, I suppose you're right but I'm sure some firewalls would prevent it unwittingly. If it were outgoing just watch your router logs and see what port it's using then block it. Pretty easy, but that would be interesting if they had something like a rootkit installed. That would be very unethical and I don't think that Nintendo would risk something like that. I has bitten a few companies like Sony in the butt.

whoa hines...thats more games than I played for wii this year! :lol

I will be playing my Wii next year with Okami Wii Edition, Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl
You're missing No More Heroes and Mushroom Men. Why?

Idk about Mushroom Men, and No More Heroes is like...the lamest thing I have ever seen.

woow hines slow down a little bit... the lamest thing you ever seen??? you need to look more videos of that game seriously

So between SSBB and Bleach, I've been playing only my Wii recently. I'm on the good side of the statistic! :D

@ Hines, No More Heroes is awesome. You should at least give it a try. :)

For every ten Wii's sold, seven are being sold with Smash Bros.

Or something.
