Frank O'Connor leaving Bungie to work with Microsoft on Halo franchise

The long-standing "voice" of Bungie, Content Manager Frank O'Connor, is leaving the Halo studio in order to "work more closely with Microsoft on the Halo franchise." In his final Weekly Update, O'Connor sends a heartwarming thanks to the community for a number of things, among them for "not following through on the death threats" (his emphasis, not ours).

The most interesting part of his goodbye later is the tease on the "coming years." Said O'Connor, "I was busy working on a story for one of our next games, an experience that is destined to surprise, amaze and entertain like nothing we've ever made before. That game has an amazing team invested in it, and one that will be tasked with building the Next Big Thing. You should see what they've already achieved, you truly should." We'll be watching with eager eyes. Take care, Frank, you'll be missed.

Wow, I'm sad, but amazingly happy at the same time... At least now I know who'll be working on the Halo titles Microsoft spits out.

well every concept of every game can be changed to another genre, for example mario and final fantasy XD. so if you think about halo's world and concept an RTS would be ok or in the worst case scenario XD a twisted metal type of game

Because it's freaking Halo.
Yeah, come on guys, it's Halo, the game that was changed to an FPS after being an RTS for several months of development, it can't be anything other than a shooter.

Wasn't it a Third Person Shooter for some time as well?

But they won't be shooters...
I'm almost positive that Microsoft never said that. The most they said was that Master Chief's story-arc was over. There could definitely still be Halo shooters, and Halo could be transferred to other genres if a decent developer is making it.

Halo, as an entire series, has a wealth of story and background material in it. If you read the (almost 100% canon) books you will know what I mean. Not just related to MC and the Covie invasion either. It has a lot going for it, and if used well there could easily be a lot of good games made from the Halo universe.

The books make me want to play Halo as a Squad Based shooter. I loved the missions and teamwork that the Spartans had to use to win. The Obstacle course would be alot of fun or when they were put on that mountain and hijacked that Pelican.

The ODST are my favorite military group in the Halo Universe I would love to play as them. Some of the stealth and other missions that the Spartans went on would work as well.
