Game sequels, when should a proper sequel emerge?

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
Have you noticed some games have been spawning sequels once a year now, instead of the good ol' days when it was a 2-4 year gap.

The question here, is when is a sequel TOO soon? The game industry keeps tripling the budgets of these projects every sequel it seems to outdo the original title before. Not to mention the marketing campaigns and their cost.

Let's set the record straight, you, the consumer. When do you feel the need for a sequel in your favorite game series?

actually most of the games i play don't get a sequel till years and years later... like final fantasy, The legend of zelda and such

Haven't really seen it much in titles I actualy play but I agree that some titles like Need for Speed, the sports titles and GH that they need allow more between releases.
Heck Mega the game playing right now is Diablo II: LOD although they have announce a sequel is 8-9 years in between long enough for you. :D

Which is why Diablo 3 is going to be worth it. Blizzard makes their games like good wine, aged to perfection.

Most of the game series' that I enjoy don't do fast sequels. But I don't really have a preference for how long or how short the time is in between games, as long as the sequels feel like they weren't rushed.

No arguement here. :) Although I was a little surprised when I was in walmart acouple weeks ago they're still selling Diablo Battle Chest in there stores although it is an RPG icon and also Blizzard has put the work in to keep it patched so it will work with the windows XP.

A lot sooner than "SquareEnix" and their "Final Fantasy" titles are cranked out.

Well, the problem is that most of the games are not that much better from the previous. But of course, like everything else, they want they're money...
