GameStop...a necessary evil?

I wasn't arguing that part. Obviously if something is no longer being sold then your only option would be to buy used or find someone who has an unwrapped game for a decent price. Plus, in my case, I want games that are older than the last generation so they have no use for me there.

It does affect developers and publishers just not as bad as other industries. And like Stealth pointed out, they have voiced there opinions. They would rather have you not do it, but again since it's not as bad as other industries they don't really push consumers to buying new, because they still do it anyways. People buy new just as much as people buy used so it balances itself in the end, since you can't have used games until someone buys them in the first place.

From the past figures that Gamestop put out, it seems they are making more money than some developers and personally I'd rather have that money go to the developers than Gamestop. I would rather support them and have them make more games.

I guess it evens itself out very well, because ever since Gamestop opened, we've seen nothing but more high quality/graphical games come out.

I would have to disagree. It's the natural evolution of games. I don't think Gamestop had anything to do with it. Other than just offering Limited Editions.

Agreed.  I don't see what Gamestop has to do with better graphics, or better games in general.

I think you both read it wrong or maybe I didn't word it as great as I could have. I didn't mean that Gamestop has had a positive influence. But the amount and quality of games that have been coming out have shown that Gamestop hasn't had a negative influence either. Gamestop = graphics? :lol

Wow, that's crazy. Yeah, one of my coworkers used to make promo videos for our store, since the corporate ones are so lame. But we were always told that was a no-no, so if we knew someone might be visiting the store, we'd put the company video back in.

Actually the district manager was against me doing it in the first place (we were a district store). Which was understandable to a point since some of her less than educated employees from other stores were producing extremely horrible videos and were handing them off to her. Perhaps in some attempts to please her into a raise (she wasn't very friendly). Once she saw the first 5 minutes of mine, she wanted to see a finished version and promptly handed me a stack of blank vhs tapes. She introduced me to the head regional manager and suddenly it was all her idea. Oh well, we had the highest Dreamcast presales in the district and was one of the top in the country for that fiscal year. Here I sit, seething because I was never compensated for my work.

Yeah, that sounds pretty typical. What I really hate is that, if you're doing great, the manager takes the credit, but if you're doing bad, the manager blames it on whoever is the easiest scapegoat, so either way, if you're not the store manager, you're getting the short end of the stick.

Hence why I quit...

I actually have. I asked them to top my $20 an hour and they said no. When I left I was making $7 maybe?

:lol

That's so awesome. I'm making less now than I was at GameStop, but I actually have more money because I'm not constantly spending it on video games. And in another raise I will pass what I was making, anyway.

I make more, but I have less. I guess thats what happens when you raise a family... I mean I actually have to plan on buying something!

I'm bumping this thread, because today, I had one of those "Nescessary Evil" days. Because my store hasn't recieved the DualShock 3 controllers still. So I had to venture into the Hellish Nightmare, that is GAMESTOP.

So I'm ready to check out, I trade in a game and the SixAxis controller, since I dont need since I was getting a DualShock 3. The employee tells me I got $18 something left over from last time and then he goes into the entire MAGAZINE-SUBSCRIPTION story! Dun Dun DUNNNN!!!

In the back of my mind...I'm thinking "How am I gonna get this moron to shut up..."

I look around rapidly as he is speaking....spot from the corner of my eye in the FAR left of the PS3 section.. a $20 game! THANK YOU JESUS!

here's me: OKAY COOL BUT YOU GOT SONIC FOR PS3 for $20!? IS THAT OAKY!? =D!!

"uh sure if you want.."

YES PLZ!!

*checks out* Thank GOD!! >.>

After tax, all I owed was $1.59. A $1.59 to make him shut the heck up was TOTALLY WORTH IT.

Just gimme my stuff and BACK OFF ya Starbucks smellin' weenier!

you bought that piece of gabage O_OUUUU JUST TO MAKE SOMEONE SHUT UP???? XD omg i wished you could have made a video out of it.

i was thinking of trading in some stupid old games like tiger woods 2003, shadow the hedgehog, final fantasy CC (since no one has an SP these days) and pokemon colosseum.. but i don't know how much am i gonna get for these games (specially the first 2 pieces of garbage)

That's kinda funny because I bet that's what customers are thinking about you when you give them the magazine run around :lol
