Gears of War: Jacinto's Remnant

New York Times bestselling author Karen Traviss picks up the story of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago where Gears of War 2 left off. Jacinto's remnant picks up after the destruction of humanity's last bastion on the planet Sera, with the refugees from Jacinto finding themselves struggling against the icy wilderness as well as the remaining Locust, which are understandably very angry. Only Marcus Fenix and his merry band of muscle-bound Gears can find a safe haven for the dregs of humanity.
 
Is this canon to the game storyline? If not, I'm not interested. It'd just be published fanfiction.

Anyway, if this novelist is a good one, then this novel should, in turn, come out goo. The Halo series worked well, though I admit I preferred the style of writing more in the first four than the last two.

But if this follows after the fall of Jacinto... this makes me wonder if there's a GoW based earlier on, and I'm not taking the short graphic comics that came in the special edition boxes.
