Goodbye random battles

According to a board on IGN, Final Fantasy XII will no longer have random battles. However, how it will handle battling is so far unknown.

I actually didn't mind them, but they got slightly less tedious as the games evolved. Plus, where I would probably have gotten lazy without random battles, with them I just fought most of my battles and got a lot stronger. Should be interesting to see how it turns out though.

Thats sorta funny, me too. My friends complain about doing random battles, I guess true RPG players have to like all aspects of the game.

Well, if it's set up like Chronotrigger where you can see the enemies and they respawn and stuff...then that would be really cool. I dunno if I have faith in Square anymore though.

Let me ask you guys this, do you ever run away from battles?

I dont because I always battle and get as strong as I can get, I learned this from playing Final Fantasy VII, I always ran away from battles until I got to a really strong boss and couldn't defeat him. :lol

not sure what to think about this.... won't they have a hard time?

I am sure they could think of something else.... but this is what the FF series is all about.

†B†V† :hat

They could start doing the battles like how RPG's such as Paper Mario, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, etc. do them and make it so you can see the enemy (like someone said earlier). That seems to be just as fun.

New features such as real-time battles eliminate the "good guys one site, bad guys one the other" setup. This game involves moving the character around during battle to avoid enemy attacks. There is also no random battles, all enemies are visible on-screen before you battle them. If you wish to avoid battles you must "sneak" around these enemies who can find you by sight and even sound.

Apparently that's how they're handling it. I can't be too sure about how reliable this information is.

This is the source - Final Fantasy Spirit.

Very Metal Gear Solid, innit? :P

That's what I'm hopeing for, I really like that way of doing it.

Well I dont know, I kinda' of like the randomness of battles a little. Sometimes it gets annoying though when your really trying to get somewhere and you just start a battle out of the blue.

I don't like the idea of enemies on screen. I usually like to battle loads of enemies until i'm satisfied I can move on. How are they gonna fit so many enemies on the screen?

I don't really like the idea of sneaking around them like in Metal Gear either. Although I wont be complaining if you can hide in cardboard boxes. ^_^

Oh man I remember that one. One of my paythroughs I think my total time was about half playing that. Too adicting.

And from what I've heard I think they're going to be putting enemys on the screen. I'm willing to try it out for FF, I just hope they don't mess up battles doing this.

Yeah hope they dont mess up the battles either. Another thing is the battle system too.

i'm sure battles will be relatively the same, but each ff places in things that make it significantly different in some aspect to its predecessor.
running is fine when the battle is of no purpose (ie no exp and/or gold value) with too much loss of life or magic waste, like flan type creatures in the older ff's

Haha, I remember EarthBound, That game was supposed to have a sequel on the N64 like, a decade ago. I kinda miss that game. -Runs out and buys it-
