To me,backwards compatibility has tremendous gravity, which is why I'm glad I decided to keep my 60GB PS3.

Godspeed.

to put it simply, it's one of the main reasons i don't have a ps3.
I thought the newer ones were somewhat backwards compatible. They're not? :)

Somewhat. Made sure to get a backwards compatible PS3. Don't need alot of systems taking up too much space around my tv.:P

It's huge and I am honestly surprised sometimes when people act like it shouldn't be a big deal. Like Thrav, it is one of my main complaints about the PS3. Right now I have a Gamecube, PS2, Xbox, and N64 hooked up. This alone takes up much more space than I even want it to. I have one slot left on my surge protector and no more open A/V inputs on my receiver. It is pretty much physically impossible to add another console to my setup. I guess if I didn't have the other consoles it wouldn't be such a big deal, but as of now, it's a deal breaker, which is unfortunate.

Not too important. I don't sell systems I would rather just play the original game on the original system. I know it works just like it did originally.

Well it was a very important issue to me, yet these past 2 years that demand from me has died down to accept it. I do miss the ability to play PS2 games on my PS3. Xbox games on my 360 was awesome until they stopped updating the BC list. Yet the more we go further into the future of these current consoles, it's dying down thanks to digital downloads, especially a major thanks to Sony's part. However, Microsoft cutting the life support of original Xbox Live games is neigh and Wii's GameCube support is a mythology now, since Nintendo won't even speak of it.

Backwards compatibility is a very big deal with me. It is not the only reason that I do not have a PS3 but it does play a big part, and will, whenever I am in the market to purchase a PS2 replacement. And it is one of the big reasons why I do not have a DSi.

I thought the Wii and 360 were BC? And digital downloads are cool for games I don't already own, but that does nothing for me for the games I already own since it would be foolish to pay for them again.

For me, I would prefer a console to at least feature BC for the previous generation. It would make the transition much easier to a new console. Especially since not many people are going to have a large library of games immediately.

But I'm also for cheaper console prices. So if that means sacrificing BC then so be it. I would want more people to afford the newer consoles so that I can have more people to play with online. I've thought about buying a 60GB PS3 but after some careful deliberation, BC would not be as crucial for me.
