How Much Attention Do You Devote to Nostradamus And His Prophetic Writings?

Normally,I tend to lean toward Biblical prophets, but this cat seems to be pretty good.Usually false prophets are very general, opening up a lot of different conclusions.Nostradamus may have written enigmatically, but accurate in his quatrains.

What is your feeling on this?

God Bless,
Kaz

All prophecies are open to interpretation, which leaves people to say after the fact that the prophecy was simply interpreted incorrectly.

Ambiguity =/= truth.

Meh, whatever. If it happens, it happens. We'll just have to find out in 2012, now won't we?

His writings are VERY vague and are wide open to interpretation. I find them interesting but they are to be taken with a very large grain of salt.

It's hard to put any stock into prophecy. Remembering playing operator in elementary school? Same principals apply here. All these prophecy were written in ancient times in a different language and have been translated two three, four, five, etc. times over and over again each time losing some of what was intended. Hebrew for instance had far fewer words than english did so 1 herbrew word can translate into many different words depending on how the original author intended. "Thou shall not kill" for instance, the hebrew word translating to kill could also translate into murder for instance. thou shall not murder has a much different meaning than thou shall not kill. Since no language has a 1:1 word translation meaning gets lost. Couple that with the fact lots of texts started out as stories and such passed on orally for generations and then converted to text, then translated into different languages many different times, things get vague super fast. Not to mention the fact i'm sure these prophets weren't sporting our traditional calander (or the atomic clock) god only knows when these things were slated to happen. Watch the history channel on this stuff some time, you'll have 3 or 4 highly touted pundits who've spent their lives studying ancient prophecy take the prophecies in totally different directions. It's fun to watch, and neat to follow, but hard to pin down. Heck, when I was in the 8th grade I was taught the oracles of delphi resided in caves and chewed on indeginious laurel leaves for a drug induced state of mind to spout off prophecy, later on they were in the caves but it was gases being released from the earth that filled the caves making them have visions, yet another much later teaching had the oracles placed in churches not caves. WHO KNOWS? Indians took payote (spelling?) and had all sorts of prophetic visions, now some one takes drugs and has visions makes them crazy and written off. Drug induced euphorias make great stories (alice in wonderland, fear and loathing in las vegas, but hardly is carroll and thompson prophets.

Nothing's gonna happen. 2012...lol yeah right. The planets will align? Ok, Don't you think that the scientists and mathematicians could have calculated that without some ancient calendar that just so happens to stop on that day? Maybe the guy who was writing the calendar got bored. I mean, he went PLENTY of years into the future with his calendar.

I'm with ya on this one bro. I put about as much faith into Prophets as I do into winning the lottery.

To me, this 2012 crap is just another Y2K. As for the Myan calendar, it simply ends. That doesn't mean it's the end. That would be like me looking at my wall calendar and saying, oh crap, there's nothing after the end of December. It's all over! It's just the end of their calendar. In the end if you're a science only person then ask yourself if there's any hard evidence to support this. And there isn't. Knowing the rate of precession, anyone with an understanding of match could figure out the galactic alignment. If you believe in god, just think about it, he's not going to end the world on a day that you will suspect. He'd end it on........ Tuesday, just what seemed like an ordinary day. Jesus was asked about the end of the world. His response was that not even he knew.

As for the movie, it looks stupid to me. It looks like it's all special effects and no depth or good characters.

one thing i watched (for about 5 mins on history channel) was about some pothead who got super high one day, had some guy talk to him in a vision and he spent a long time writing down events that happened. its called the time-wave theory. but i couldnt be bothered to discuss it further.

Being a Christian,I believe you are correct about Jesus not knowing the true end times, only the Father.Although,I often wonder why He didn't let the Messiah in on it.Hmmmm...

cause if someone asked jesus when the end times were, he would have to tell the truth.

That is a good point.I never considered that.Well,ya learn something every day.Hmmmm...

Of the 3 "Anti-Christs" that Nostradamus predicted, the third to be the most malevolent to date is believed to be among us now.Having people such as the late Saddam Hussein and other horrific characters to be the forerunners that are "Setting The Stage" for the 3rd "Anti-Christ" to soon take over.

I could be wrong, but it's my belief and many others' that it's Bin Laden.Others believe it's the "Pope Ratzinger",and some believe it to be Barack Obama. All I know is,that evil can be the prettiest or ugliest thing in the world.Any thoughts?

Peace.

So, after this discussion, you still put weight on those prophesies?

I'm entitled Grindspine, just as you are.
As for 2012,I disagree, big time.Being Christian,I believe only God The Father knows that.In my last reply,I was targeting the 3 "Anti-Christs".

Okay,

I am just saying, after agreeing that, in your beliefs, only God knows those future events, wouldn't that automatically discount Nostradamus' prophesies?
