I Had A Great Deal Of Respect For....

I'm posting this with respect to the late Steve Irwin(Crocodile Hunter).I am so sick and tired of people labeling Mr.Irwin as "Crazy".Even now that he's dead.One of the members at the local Chess Club I belong to accused Mr.Irwin of being crazy and mistreating snakes and other animals with long tails by swinging them around above his head like a lasso.That couldn't be further from the truth.

This other member might have seen Mr.Irwin's show a little north of 3 or 4 times,I watched it religiously.In no way shape or form did he mistreat animals.I remember an episode where he was scratching the ears of a baby elephant,much like you would a pet dog or cat,because he knew this baby elephant had a disease and was going to die soon.Mr.Irwin was(like most men)trying not to cry,but his eyes were welling and eventually tears appeared.

I ask you,does this sound like a man who mistreated animals?I'll be honest,I thought the episode he did on Komodo Dragons was certainly pushing the envelope,but if it wasn't for people like him we wouldn't know as much as we do today about some misunderstood animals.Yes he did die because of his passion and compassion for animals.Crazy? No.What's crazy is "Bungee Jumping",what's crazy is "Bull Fighting",not to mention those people in Spain with that Running of the Bull crap.My apologies if this ruffles the feathers of some members,but it had to be said.I'd be happy to hear your views on this issue,I haven't been a member for very long,but you guys seem very well educated.

Thank you for your typing time.

God bless,

THANK YOU!

I agree!

I hate how people called him crazy, when he was a brilliant person. He wasn't just messing with wild animals, there were safety crews all around him at all times.

Steve Irwin was so awesome. I think people who didn't watch what he did misunderstood his passion and labeled him crazy. But I agree, it's upsetting that people think he abused animals in any way. Personally, I thought he was very inspiring. He was all about animals and educating people about them. It's unfortunate that he left this world when he did.

Fortunately, his daughter is following in his footsteps as far as the animal stuff goes. ^_^ I think she even has her own show, but I don't have cable so I haven't seen it.

This video just shows me that he loved animals just as he loved his family.

The first time I saw it, it made me really sad. :-\

Honestly, he has to be a little bit crazy to go anywhere near all of those potentially deadly animals, but I think of it as crazy in a good way. This irrational attitude towards so many dangerous animals allowed him to develop a passion for them, and their well-being. So while I do consider him somewhat crazy for wrestling with 15 foot crocodiles, I don't think any less of him for it. (if anything, the opposite)

My God,That's the most powerful video of his I've ever seen. :'( :'(

Steve was a really cool guy. Fun to watch as well. I didn't watch his show much but i always liked to hear about what animals he was researching. The show I Love The 90's just trashed him to no end, which is rather sad. Anyway, i'll watch that vid once my friends leave.

Iggy. ::D

I thought the guy was crazy, but you know what? What is wrong with that? Not a thing. If you love something enough to go in full steam without being to concerned about the dangers, then more power to you. He died doing what he loved and I think that is the best thing a person can hope for in the end.
