I Tried To Keep My Cool

Hi Members,

I had an interesting argument today with some guy I just met which turned into a little bit of a scrap.He claimed that he was a supporter of the "Aryan Brotherhood".At first I didn't know for sure if he was,because lots of people shave their heads.It doesn't mean they are a racist skinhead.When he extended his left hand to shake my hand,I knew he was(I guess that's how they identify each other,I don't know for sure.

And sure enough,givin' my beliefs the hair on the back of my neck stood up.I still shook his hand because I wasn't a 100% sure he was a racist,until my other friend went to take his laundry out of the dryer.We were talking back and forth about certain issues and things,until he brought up the subject of Blacks and Jews,and how he had some literature at home that would change my entire way of thinking.Here we go!me with my big mouth.

I said to him,.."Do you believe in Jesus,and what he stood for?.." He replied,..."I most certainly do."Then I replied.."Do you know that Jesus was a Jew?..."
He said yes unfortunately.I couldn't believe my #$@^&$@!! ears!!I try not to judge others for their beliefs because they are entitled wheather I agree or not,but this guy was really pushing all my buttons.

I said"...How can you believe in Christ and do what you do?.." And this was the icing on the cake,he replied "..Humans can't sin and get punished because Jesus,even though he was Jewish and and all,covered our butts for the sins we do when he was strung up on the cross.(I'm getting more infuriated by the second).I said..."Yes,Jesus died on the cross for our sins,but that doesn't give you carte blanche to go out and star hating and beating people because of their skin color or religious beliefs.Once again,he said "...Look man,just look at the literature I have,you'll think differently.

That was the last straw,I gritted my teeth,stood up and beat that punk senseless.I'm no tough guy,but this dork pushed me too far.I'm not a person that gets into fights that often,but my hand was hurting real bad and was quite swollen,I went to the ER,and they told me to just ice it and it will heal in no time.I asked for a pain killer to help ease the pain,but because of my past drug abuse they didn't want to trigger a relapse by giving me prescription strength painkillers,so they just gave me Advil.

I think about it all now....yeah,it was worth it.

As for you, you took a drastic measure, and I strongly say "Turn the other cheek". Yet that's too late now. Just because he's a racist, doesn't mean he's going to get in the end. He surely will. The only thing you did, was cause him to be more racist than he already is. A negative plus a Negative doesn't always mean postive in real life, only in numbers.

Yet I hope you're doing better.

I hear what your saying Mega,and I know it says in the Bible not to do what I did,but he's talking about the Messiah,I just lost control,I'm not proud of it.

I know the feeling, I see it everyday here in Texas. Alot of people are very high strung about their religion. I respect their wishes, but I wish they wouldn't become so angry or feathers to be ruffled over a small comment or anything. Like Jesus said, "Forgive them father, for they do not know any better". You just have to take it with a grain of salt.

On the plus side, I'm proud of you for standing up for what is right. Racism is the ugliest thing on the planet.

Hi Mai!

I he and his boys come to lay the smackdown,they will be in a for a rude awakening.If they manage to kick my ass,then so be it,I will defend Christ with every fiber of my being,and as long as I draw breath.To me,salvation is a much more important thing than a few stitches.

I'm starting to feel like I'm on a Christian forum, and I don't even believe in god :lol I think you probably should have just walked away on this one, Kaz. Doesn't sound like the guy was even worth a bruised hand!

well i think what kaz did was to defend his beliefs, true i agree is not worth getting your hand bruised because obviously these types of discussions are never solved through violence, and they only make things worse but i do agree that the guy was being a racist jerk.

That's easy for you to say man,you weren't there to witness the way eyes were full of hatred,and at the same time,a look on his face like he was some sort of warrior for the Aryan Brotherhood.Jesus died on the cross for all of us,not just black or white.

That is true, yea. I think it would have been better for you to walk away, but sometimes it is just too hard. I just think that what you did will only fuel more hate in him, but than again, maybe it was the smack in the face he needed...yes, pun intended

You make good points too man.At any rate I think God would have given me the same advice you did.I believe that I am going to heaven,but somehow I think God is going to put me in some sort of Spiritual Detention until I learn more.

Your comment made me think about something ... the account where Jesus was being arrested the night before his death. Peter stood up for him, grabbed a sword and attacked one of the men who had grabbed Jesus. Jesus did not praise Peter for what he did. He admonished him and healed the man's ear. (Matthew Chapter 26).

We are told repeatedly in the bible that Vengeance does not belong to us. It is the right of God which he claimed, and truthfully if we take it for ourselves, isn't that a little presumptuous? (Romans 12:19).

In Galatians there is a list of the "works of the flesh" including "strife ... fits of anger ... contentions" which we are to avoid at all costs. What we are recommended to cultivate in our personality are the fruitages of the spirit "love, joy, peace" being among them. (Galatians 5:19-23)

Violence and uncontrolled anger, even when done in the name of the Lord, goes so far against his actual teachings and way of life, it actually belies the very theme and message of the bible. I'm sure from my studies of scripture and of Jesus life that he would take no pleasure in that sort of sacrifice to his cause.

Instead we are reminded to "return evil for evil to no one" (Rom 12:17). This is not a position of weakness. Even Jesus knew when to give someone an answer to a question, and when to keep quiet. This is a position of strength and wisdom. These qualities of self-control, peaceableness and goodness are some of the reasons why people have so much love for Jesus. And if we are to follow him, then we are to follow him fully, and make it our way of life to "be peaceable with all men". Romans 12:17-21 are good scriptures to apply here.

Mr. Kaz I can tell that you are a serious person, who has a great love of spirituality. That's why I spend the time to make up this post, I hope that you'll think about it and protect yourself better in the future.

I'm sitting here reading this, and cannot for the life of me figure out who is right. The guy advicating hate crimes, or the one committing hate crimes.

From a legal standpoint, Kaz, you are in the wrong. You did what you thought was right in bringing street justice to someone who obviously diserves it, but that in it's self is wrong. Unfortunately, if you cannot get through to a racist that his beliefs are not only wrong but hypocritical, then there is no way you can get through with fists.

From a moral standpoint, I'd say that if you are a Christian, you are obligated to shake the dust off your feet. You said your peace, but that should be all. Do you think you are giving Christ any glory by fighting for him with weapons? Hardly. If your enemy strikes you on the cheek, offer him the other. If it were me, would have shrugged it off and prayed for him. That's all we can do and should do...
