I'm thinking about getting a slim PS2

I had to post this because I know you all are hanging on my every thought. ::D

Seeing all the new systems out brings back that good ol' new games at Christmastime feelin'. I've played all of the top games that I like for the Cube, but I'm too cheap to even buy a Wii, much less pay $50 apiece for new games. So I think I'll get a silver PS2 and some of the Zelda-esque games for it.

Are there quality mario-esque games for it, other than Ape Escape?

But.. there's nothing even remotely comparable to Zelda on any other system.... that's the one part of your statement I don't get.

Jak and Daxter series
Ratchet and Clank series
Sly Cooper series

Don't forget, that the Metal Slug Anthology is coming on PS2 as well as the PSP and Wii.

You never can go wrong with a PS2 honestly.

None of those games are ANYTHING like Zelda.. if that's the comparison you were trying to make.

Okay, then get Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2 :) Ico and Shadow of the Colossus would be a good bet too i'd say

Again, if you're trying to compare to Zelda...

In the words of the Melee announcer... Failure . . .

Get one, you won't be dissapointed and in my opinion it has a good lineup of upcoming games.

As for games the, ones Mega recommended are good choices.

"There's definitely an influence from Nintendo's Zelda franchise, as can be seen by the game's main character, the lock-on battles, and some of its dungeon and artistic design. Players will also see some of Vagrant Story here, as the game relies heavily on the ability to find new weapons to power-up and build according to the desires of the gamer. The random dungeon elements have been seen in hordes of games before it like Diablo II and countless other games. And while I can't comment on it directly as I have regretfully never played it, a lot of people have related the world-building elements in Dark Cloud to Act Raiser on the Super NES."

Cool. Let's quote a review because that proves the point quite well.

There's nothing out there like Zelda. Similar in style how when Mario 64 came out, platformers didn't exactly follow that path - the neo-platformer was born (IE: Jak and Daxter).

Yes, because Dark Cloud= Zelda clone wannabe.

Back on topic, Silent Engima, it's perfectly fine to purchase a PS2. There is a ton of variety and the best time to seek out games is when it's fixing to go out with a bang. That way, all the crowds who are too busy trying to get a Wii or PS3 will leave you with a better chance to grab the games you'd like to play on PS2.

Yeah. A very, very poor clone. It's nothing like Zelda man. I don't even see any resemblence whatsoever. Dark Cloud 2? Haven't played it becuase the first one was such a piece of shit.

I know it sucks, which explains why Dark Cloud 3 never arrived :lol but I can see the clone resemblence in someways. Ever played "The Hobbit" on PS2/Cube/Xbox? Just like Zelda as well, but just really really...easy as heck....and almost 25% of the game is just listening to the story sadly.

I agree, nothing can touch Zelda, since it perfected this style of gameplay.

get a slim ps2. Zelda's one of like 3 different franchises Nintendo can offer.

You're so insane. There's a reason Nintendo's still around and still making fat stacks.

Nintendo is waaay better then anything else out there. That is not under debate at all here. There is no Zelda type game out there that can compare to the real Zelda, either.

We will be getting a Wii, too, but just not yet.

Since we are getting a PS2, do you have any game recommedations?

We will being buying one brand new in hopes that it won't break for at least a few days....and we will try not to drop it.

We are not sony fans at all, but we want to play some of the games that were on that system....if that is OK with you? :D

It can get a little overrated at times but it definitely deserves the praise it gets as far as gameplay is concerned. Don't even bother talking about the "innovative" ways it uses the WiiMote, since they undelivered in that area, personally. But gameplay is still solid and fun for a lot of people, not just Nintendo heads.
