Is Kid Icarus making a comeback on the Wii?

When Factor 5's president confirmed to IGN the other week that they were reuniting with Nintendo at least long enough to produce a non-Virtual Console title, more than a few ears perked up. Although quizzed up and down for more juicy details, Julian Eggebrecht was tight-lipped. Guess that was sort of expected... just enough to get us interested and wanting more.

What would the mystery title be? According to gaming site Kombo, who credits "a reliable source," the title in question is none other than a Kid Icarus game for the Wii -- and get this, built from the ground up, specically for it. Since nothing has been confirmed at this time (yes, the same old song and dance), we have to file this under the "rumors with great potential" category.

After the lukewarm reception that Factor 5 received with LAIR, this seems like an excellent way to right a few wrongs in the eyes of gamers, who have been clamoring for a new Kid Icarus game for what seems like ages. Since the Wii shares a few things under the hood with another member of the family -- the GameCube -- and knowing that Factor 5 is no stranger to creating hit games for that platform, they should (theoretically) be able to hit this one out of the park. Drop whatever else that you're doing F5, and make it happen. The fans will love you for it.

[Thanks, Madninja]

hmmmmmmm

Well, after what happened with the Wii NiGHTS game, I really am losing faith in bringing back old franchises. It worked for Metroid, though. So who knows?

here is another report on this

Rumor: Factor 5 working on a Kid Icarus game for Wii

kid-icarus_wii_490.jpg

We reported last week that Factor 5, developers of the amazing Rogue Squadron series for the Gamecube and the nightmarish Lair for PS3, has rekindled their relationship with Nintendo, and are currently working on an unnamed project exclusively for the company's home console. According to gaming site Kombo (and their anonymous inside source), the project is a brand new Kid Icarus game, designed from the ground up for the Wii. Given F5's renewed partnership with Nintendo, and the Kid Icarus buzz already in the air due to protaganist Pit's inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it's a definite possibility. However, until we hear something from the new lovers, this is just hearsay at best.

Enjoyment of NiGHTS depended on whether or not you played the original, but many people really liked it.

Idk about Kid Icarus though. I never did play the original. I'll have to keep my eye on this one.

I adored the original, so I'll probably have to pick up NiGHTS for the Wii some time soon. I feel the same way about Kid Icarus though. I never played the original either. It didn't look like too good of a game.

It was basically a dumbed down, more linear version of the original Metroid. They were built with the same engine and released at roughly the same time. I think a lot folks mourn for the lost potential of what an Icarus series could have become had it evolved along side of Metroid. Finally developing a sequel this late in the game seems both promising and puzzling.

Lair sucked due to crappy motion control.. That can easily be fixed with the Wii.

Yeah. A developer makes a game with crappy motion controls, so it would be perfect for these masters of motion controls to make a game for a console based around motion controls. ::)

The PS3 isn't exactly focused in the motion control department, not to mention that the SixAxis has only a Gyroscope in it, and most likely a crappy one at that. The Wii, on the other hand, was built with the motion control in mind, not to mention the pointer and what not.

If anything, Factor 5 will know what NOT to do. EA already knows that re-packaging an old game, giving it some better graphics, and a new roster will sell well, so I'm sure F5 has learned something from Lair.

It could also be due to the PS3's tilt being poor(seems to be the case), as opposed to the developer.

Yeah, Kid Icarus doesn't even need any motion, it just needs death defying 2D jumps and it's set.

Yeah, I know...we should play some PS...oh...that's right..you don't have a PS3. I forget how you know how motion sensing is for it. The PS3, at least for Drakes Uncharted, is better than most Wii game motion controls. Lair was easy too. Famitsu liked it. Most American gamers couldn't figure it out. Japan did really well though. Same with Mega and I.

cant wait i have been waiting a sequel sines Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters on the GAMEBOY back in 91 i have been a big of Kid Icarus sines i was a little kid
