Is the gaming industry to you, as a whole, in a rut?

This question is more directed at you members who have stayed on top of things gaming wise, i.e, you have current systems, games, and services. Basically, has gaming gone sort of stale for any of you? I ask this because I notice a huge lack of activity on the actual gaming sections of this site such as the 360 board, Nintendo board, and Sony board. For me, it has not because I still have tons of older games to beat from last gen and I don't even own a current gen console. But is just seems that the general excitement and enthusiasm for the current gen has really faded. Do you think better games could spark up your interest again, or will it have to be something completely amazing like a new system?

Hi x2!

It certainly is at Sony when it comes to "RPG'S".They gotta pick up the pace.It seems to me that the 360 is getting much better titles. As much as I hate to crap on Sony,my brother has a 360 with some nice games.I can't believe the "PS3" didn't get the new "Star Ocean",It would also be nice to have gotten a new "Dragon Quest" like the "DS".

The only "RPG" that I'm looking forward to is "FF XIII".I understand that preferences vary, but when I bought my "PS3" with a couple of games,it came to a little north of $1000.00.To Hell with the "Blue Ray",I want better gaming titles.Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Peace be with you members.
Kaz

Yeah, I'm not even excited for FFXIII anymore, as I don't like the turn they've been making with the series. (I'm an old school fan) I'm not really looking forward to any future games, I'm quite satisfied with all the unbeaten games I have right now.

Thank God for "Backwards Compatibility"!

Yea Kaz I agree. Going from being the king of RPG's with the PS1/PS2, to really lacking them, is quite a disappointment. I'm thinking people have really just been too busy for games, and maybe that's another reason for the lack of activity? Now that summer is here it might pick back up.

i am the person who just plays anything as long as i like it whether it is old school or a completely new thing, to me videogames are fun and even if something changes dramatically as long as it keeps some essence from the past then I'll keep playing it

I find excitement goes in cycles between PC gaming and consoles. I was huge into NES and Super Nintendo, and even a few Genesis games. I got into a few Playstation games before getting heavily into PC games like Quake and Starcraft.

After that I got heavily into PS2, then back to other PC games like Diablo II and Quake III.

I then cycled back to PS2 along with Xbox, GBA, and Gamecube.

I haven't bought any of the current generation of systems, but find myself playing way more PC games again, especially Steam games. If there is a lull in PC games coming out, I might end up getting a PS3 later on...

For me, there is an ebb and flow. There is exciting stuff going on, you just have to look in the right place.

Personally I didn't game that much in the past month or so. But now that's a whole different story. And not to forget the amount of fighters that are coming out this summer (BlazBlue, MVC2, and KoFXII) and that I need to get my own copy of SFIV.

For me, it was...until I took it upon myself to re-discover the Wii. I didn't touch mine since like December, then when Pikmin came out in March...

Now I see a whole new vision for it. Enjoyable games of course, and back on track. I'm finally playing catch up with the NDS now, since I missed out over a year and a half on MANY games, much like "The World Ends with you", "Dragon Quest 4-5", and even "New Super Mario Bros."

Lately, it's been nothing but PC gaming for me. I dont even touch my 360, unless to check to see what games were released on XBLA. Same scenario with my PS3, just to see which PS1 games came out LOL. I'm too much of an old school lover to sometimes move on. I love my classics and I have a hard time trying to find a new game, since I'll go back and play something like Silent Hill, N64 classics on Virtual Console or XBLA (Banjo-Kazooie), or something on Steam.

That's exactly how I am, Mega. Lately I've been playing PS1 and GBA games, and my N64 sees use just about every weekend. Old School FTW :D

There just aren't enough single-console multiplayer games. The only game I've played consistently over the last two months has been Gears 2 because my friends have two consoles, 2 copies, and 4 controllers in the same room set up for it. If more games supported split screen multiplayer, and LAN split screen multiplayer, I'd play more games more often.

There are also a ton of really good single player games that I just don't have time to sit down, learn, and play through. My single player game time is incremental these days, meaning I can't sit down for more than 15 or 20 minutes at a time to play a game. 15 min. games of NHL 09 fit this bill nicely, but most every other game in existence demands you sit down for at least a half an hour at a time -- just to get started.

I'm also wary of learning curves on games these days. I don't have the time/patience to sit down and learn a robust control scheme or complicated strategy. If the game can't unfold these concepts to me in a fun or interesting sort of way, I'll probably just get frustrated with it and quit.

I don't want to complain too much, the biggest problem I have with playing games is just that I don't have enough time to play all the games I want, and there are a ton of good ones out there. I think the industry might interest me more if it offered less. As it stands I'm overwhelmed with the amount of games I'll never have time to play.

I just stick with PS2 and Xbox nowadays. Nothing out there seems to really excite me right now except for Resident Evil 6 news....

I lost hope on the remake of Silent Hill. FFXIII is lost until late next year, which is all hyped out for me. I sorry, but I'm hyped out for a while.

Once Prototype came out, there really wasn't anything for me to look forward to until at least next fall. I've been looking through STEAM more often to see what there is in their Indie section, and recently started playing "Gish".
