It Doesn't Matter Where You Come From

In some movies, television shows, and from time to time I overheard conversation with respect to the stereotype that Asian Teen-agers are somehow more obsessed with video games than any other race on earth.I can't remember the title of the movie I saw it in,but one of the actors in this movie stated this: "He plays more video games than a teen-age Asian kid..." In another movie I saw, this Asian teen-ager that came into some money, and quite vividly they showed the first place he went to with a big smile on his face was a store where he bought an "X-BOX 360",upon leaving the store with his system the camera made sure to catch a shot of his face as he was drooling over his latest purchase.

It seems to me that this is an unfair stereotype for Asian people,or am I wrong?

I guess you could call it a stereotype, but Japan is one of the largest game markets in the world, second only to us actually. When you consider that Japan has a third of the population of the U.S, yet almost has as many gamers, you can start to see where the stereotype came from.

True.

yeah this may be an unpopular opnion, but i think stereotypes exist for a reason. people didn't just make them up as they went, they noticed trends in certain people and applied that to their entire group. its not right to assume all stereotypes are correct, but its foolish to believe them all to be wrong.

This may make me sound like a jerk, but i'm of the thought that stereotypes exist, because they are perpetuated.

Nothing wrong with being a realist. I don't have a problem with stereotypes. I have a problem when people misuse them and generalize.

and quite frankly, i find that stereotypes can be used to be quite funny

The stereotype also eludes to fanatical Korean and Chinese PC online gamers, mainly StarCraft and MMO addicts. If you think a lot of Americans are slaves to the servers, you should read the news coming out of Asia. Some guys literally die at the keyboard from lack of food or sleep.
