It's offical, PS3 for $399...I kid you not

I bet it's not as expensive as people expect because Sony is playing Microsoft's game. Sell the console at a loss and reap massive profit on the games and accessories.

No its not as expensive as some others thought it was going to be. But they still have to sell lots of units in order to get that massive profits from games. Sony isnt the only ones who make money off of the software.

well sense they are loosing a billion dollars to manufacture the system... its a huge gamble for one of the most expensive systems off all time.

Hey guys, before this gets out of hand, keep in mind that this report is not an official statement from Sony. It's merely a calculated analysis made by Merrill Lynch Japan Securities.

While I personally think they're probably right, it's still too early to start saying that it's the official price. I'll wait for a Sony press conference to oficially confirm the price of the PS3, and I would suggest everyone else do the same. ;)

lets wait and see what it officially comes out as.

I am surprised they were able to keep it to $400.. but still ... thats too much IMO.
saturn, anyone?

$400 bucks, I just lost all interest.
Man..can a price tag do this to someone?

Well what do you guys expect the price to be set at? I mean it is the next-gen console and its way more powerful than PS2, and Im sure it'll have tons of new features that PS2 didn't have. I just hope that the games aren't going to be like $60+ 'cause I know for a fact that alot of people aren't going to have alot of PS3 games. *happens to be one of those people*

Well the title of the topic says that it was official, and this is from Mega so I believed him without reading the article. So an honest mistake by me. But still it will be highly unlikely to have the PS3 any less than this price. Which is still too much for me. If others want to buy it at that price then more power to them, as for me, Ill wait till the price drops.

$400 bucks is rediculous for a console. If I'm spending that much I'd rather buy like a graphics card or something.
I rather feel like my money is worth it more than a graphics card. :-\

Eh. Id rather spend $400 on a console since its the whole package. No need to upgrade for at least five more years. the graphics card might be outdated too quickly. But thats just me and thats if I had the choice to spend $400 on either the console or the graphics card.

This morning I thought of something. About a month ago, my parents came over for my son's birthday party. I gave my dad one of my NES consoles to give to my younger sister because all it was doing was taking up space. I even gave her the original box, instruction manual, and even the NES game pad that had never been taken out of the box. I figured I would never use it anyway. But on the box was the sticker price from Toys R Us from 1986. The price was $179.99 for the console, game pad, light gun, two controlers and the game cartrige that has World Class Track meet, Super Mario Bros, and Duck hunt.
So if that console was $180 in 1986, then in perspective the PS3 isn't much more than that in 2005-06.

$180 for a NES for today is BOGUS! :o

But its kinda of funny though to see an old console with a huge price tag on it these days, but Im sure people pay that amount for the console, games, etc over on eBay.

I think he meant he payed that much for it then....
I dont think anyone was selling it today for 180, he was using it as an example to relate it to the PS3
