Re: Metal Geat Solid or Splinter Cell?

Splinter Cell. It has WAY better multiplayer, feels more real and gritty, and the direction they're taking it with conviction really seems like something that will not only change set the bar for MGS 4 (I think conviction's coming first...), but will open up new ground for the genre.

Re: Metal Geat Solid or Splinter Cell?

splinter cell definitly!

i hate the gun control in mgs

its like, u have to press the button halfway down and all this crap, its designed badly, very badly

characters are weird and uninteresting, and the story is confusing

Re: Metal Geat Solid or Splinter Cell?

Splinter Cell. Let's face it, Snake needs to die already.

Re: Metal Geat Solid or Splinter Cell?

I remember almost falling asleep while playing SC2 (in a bad way) and I remember not being able to put the controller down in MGS2, which was made 3 years earlier. MGS has a MUCH more creative plot than SC (SC is "Stop terrorists from launching a nuke" MGS is "Stop terrorists from launching a nuke and confronting your destiny and fears.)

The lasts game in the Splinter Cell series brought the plot in a new, generally better direction. You are no longer working at Third Echelon, killing terrorists. You are being hunted by them. Plus, Metal Gear's plot line gives the game problems feeling more realistic.

Its not supposed to be realistic. Theres a 200 year-old sniper and a bisexual vampire in it! Realism sucks. I personally play games to escape reality.

But that's part of what's appealing about Splinter Cell. It makes you feel as though you are actually a spy.

The story wasn't great in the first few games, but it seems like its really starting to pick up in the fourth, and probably in the 5th, like I said...

Metal Gear Solid.

Sam Fisher's overrated. Having mediocre games doesn't help much either.

I could honestly say the same thing about MGS, and a bad camera, and bad controls at certain times certainly doesn't help its case either...

This is true. Although both games are doomed to mediocracy, not just Splinter Cell.

how are they mediocre? i swear strubes, sometimes you make it up as you go. the splinter cell games sold about as many xboxs as halo did. they have phenominal lighting effects, excellent AI, cool story, an actualyl INTERESTING main character, amazing graphics, and the best stealth gameplay the genre has ever seen.

Everyone's forgetting about Thief here. Sure, its sucked lately, but it basically invented the entire genre...

no, metal gear did on the NES

Re: Metal Geat Solid or Splinter Cell?

MGS.

Splinter Cell is too realistic and as such is very unforgiving when you are new to it.

MGS is a little more video-gameish and less realistic and I had more fun with it as a result.

Yeah, it took me hours of playing Pandora Tomorrow to finally get the hang of it, but I found that after I got over the learning curve, it was a far more satisfying game, and part of that came from the realism. Plus, the multiplayer mode was not only original, but a ton of fun.

Fine, Thief invented the 3D stealth genre...

EDIT: Wait, it came out a month after Metal Gear Solid. Nevermind...

Same can be said about SC though as well.

@Hines. Calm down. They were mediocre to me. Sue me.
