MGS4 to have cut-scenes as long as 90 minutes at a time

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/23/breaking-metal-gear-solid-4-to-have-really-long-cutscenes/

If you haven't been getting along with Metal Gear Solid's blend of neck-snapping stealth and expository blabbering, the fourth (and sort of final) game in the series is unlikely to sway your opinion. CVG reports that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is set to feature 90 minutes of cutscenes and... wait, hang on. It doesn't contain 90 minutes of cutscenes, but rather, 90-minute cutscenes. If your interest or your attention span doesn't stretch that far, you'll probably have a better time watching a Slinky make its way down a short flight of stairs.

Removing the element of sensationalism, however, it should be noted that the article fails to mention where said lengthy cutscenes (which can now be paused) fall within the game. For all we know, they're at the end -- you know, when you're done playing. Even so, this revelation is unlikely to turn away longtime series fans. If anything, we suspect it'll have them even more interested.

In other "Why am I waiting so long?" news, alleged images of a Metal Gear Solid 4 store display box have surfaced online, showing a required 4.5GB installation. We've requested comment from Konami.

That's nuts! I can't wait for this game. I can watch a full length movie at any given time. :D

That Slinky idea sounds pretty fun, but why would a cutscene have to be an hour and a half?

And can you save partway through the cutscene(strange question)?

Dunno. I'm guessing it will probably be at the end of the game, like the article guesses. I'm all for long cut-scenes. This is going to be a game that you're going to need alot of free time to play at any given time, which makes it perfect for me. I can just veggie out some days, pause a cut-scene, make dinner, and eat while watching a full-length movie. :lol

I'm still curious on that saving thing, 'cause what happens if you have to leave and your cutscene is only 70 minutes in? Would you have to watch the whole thing again, or will it autosave every ten minutes, or what?

Whoa that is going to be amazing. The perfect game Idea that I need to buy a PS3 for. This game is going to be one of the best evar!

I'm not sure. There's a few RPG's out there that have long cut-scenes as well, with no save feature. Maybe the cut-scenes will be broken up, so you can skip every 10 or 20 minutes or so.

i think this makes the game more cinematic, more like a movie/game and in my opinion this is very cool

As long as you can save before and after these scenes and if they can be skipped if you have to continue to reface a boss then Im happy.

That explains why the game will barely fit on a Blu-Ray. We were all expecting an epic game, but it's cutscenes that eat the disc so much.

I mean this is great news, Cutscenes are usually a major selling point of games. It provides that much needed incentive for gamers to continue on with award winning storylines.

I just read on Gametrailers that it's fake. not true.....none reach even close to that long

I always had that thought in my head. I mean, what would they even do with the 90 minutes? I'd suspect most of it would be filler.

Yeah, and let's be real here, any more then 30-40 minutes for a cut scene is just absurd and well, dumb. I can hardly get 2 hours to play games any more, I sure as hell don't want an hour of that to be watching cut scenes! That is just my opinion on that right thur :D Going to be a great game, though, that's for sure.

okay, I read a review for the game where the reviewer who went throught the game twice said that the longest cut scene reaches almost an hour and is the last scene of the game...

Well, that's understandable, they have to tie it up so they don't have to worry about death threats.

Now, that makes more sense. Having a super long ending scene would be pretty cool, imo.

I'm hoping the cutscenes aren't as incredibly long as they state. Not going to lie, after playing for about 10-15 minutes out of the final three hours of MGS2, it made me want to kill everyone that had any part in making the game for both wasting my time with keeping me from playing, and from suffering through the worst story of any game I've yet played. I buy games to play, I buy movies to watch.
