MORTAL KOMBAT!! PS3 and 360!! April 19th, 2011

MegaDrive20XX

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
M-Rated, 2.5D, and Gory as HELL. Mortal Kombat is getting in touch with it's roots again.

Warner Bros. announced a new Mortal Kombat game this morning, and Seven of Nine is nowhere to be found. The game, called simply Mortal Kombat, appears to be a return to the classic Mortal Kombat 2/3 style of gameplay -- extremely quick, 2D fighting -- which has been given a fresh coat of 3D paint and a very noticeable 60 frames-per-second framerate. It also features a man being sliced open at the groin with a spinning hat.

It adds a new tag team mode for up to four players, allowing teams to play through a "co-op arcade mode" or compete online against other pairs of e-murderers.

The game is being developed by Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios (the former WB Games Chicago) and is slated for launch on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2011.

9 characters accidentally leaked and KRATOS from God of War has been confirmed for the PS3 edition!

Ermac, Goro, Kabal, Noob Saibot, Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, Sindel, Smoke, and Stryker.

Re: MORTAL KOMBAT!! PS3 and 360!! PS3 edition has KRATOS from God of War!

Yeah, those characters are just rumored for the moment..but hopefully most, if not all are true.

Re: MORTAL KOMBAT!! PS3 and 360!! PS3 edition has KRATOS from God of War!

Hopefully this will be a decent game. There hasn't (at least in my eyes) been a great Mortal Kombat game...ever!

They were OK, but once the novelty wore off (MKII for me) they were just blah!

Guess I'll have to wait and see.

and here's KRATOS!

Mortal Kombat's 2011 reboot will tell consumers to "get over here" in April 2011. That's the latest release window kurrently offered by Warner Bros. Interactive, with Warner Home Video's publicity site listing a more specific April 19, 2011.

To compliment its reveal of Kratos as a playable character in the PS3 version of the game, WB has announced standard, Kollector's and Tournament editions (along with several retailer-specific pre-order incentives, listed after the break).

The Kollector's Edition will include Sub-Zero and Scorpion figurines, a collectible art book, and DLC for "Mortal Kombat Klassic costume skins" and avatar costumes. The Tournament Edition, which will have a limited run of 20,000 copies in North America, will contain the game, DLC and ... a "portable fight stick." 'Cause, you see, if it were a fight log it wouldn't be "portable" -- it's a very necessary adjective.

Retailer-specific pre-order bonuses:

GameStop: Klassic Scorpion Playable Character Skin and the original Scorpion Fatality.

Best Buy: Klassic Sub-Zero Playable Character Skin and the original Sub-Zero Fatality.

Amazon: Klassic Reptile Playable Character Skin and the original Reptile Fatality.

I wonder how much the Tournament Edition will cost?

$120-$150 is my guess.

I was semi-interested until I learned that it's BAT joystick and it's, from my understanding, a wireless stick. Screw that.

That's what it looks like. The MK3 button layout (ew) and American Arcade Parts from what it appears. Not worth your money.

Definitely not the best stick around but it is limited. So I might pick it up just for that aspect. I won't use it all though.

Also, I think I like the bat top more. I feel I have more control over a ball top.

This looks like a must have game... I definitely enjoy the 2D style with some 3D graphics... I mean, many of us grew up on the SNES and Genesis type games. I recall so many things attempting to go 3D with the Playstation and N64. I still think that my favorite games from that era are Symphony of the Night and Tekken 3...

I like that there is a tag option in the upcoming MK as well. It sounds a little like Tekken Tag Tournament.. heh >:)

For what they say they are trying to do I really don't think BAT tops will work. What I mean is that they've said that they are going to try to make it more like SF while still having that MK atmosphere. Now personally, BAT Tops only work with grapplers, aka 360 movements. With the BAT style tops you essentially have to use the whole arm to move it which results is less reaction time and less control for other characters besides grapplers.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is looking nice as well.

That makes sense, but I would think that an octagonal gate would make more of an impact than a bat top for 360 movements. I don't have my hand all the way to the top so I can still make some quick movements. I'm still switching between the two though, to make sure which one suits me the best.

Thing is. Since you are moving with your full hand you essentially are inputting excess inputs and from that you get accidental moves that could cost you. And Octagonal gates suck.

how do you grip a ball top? Wouldn't you use your full hand for both? Actually, I only have 3 fingers on the bat top. My index, middle and ring. Probably unorthodox but it's much more comfortable for me.

I agree octagonals arent' that great but I would assume they would be more natural for pulling off 360 rotational moves. I don't use those types of characters so I don't really know.
