MS SQL and .Asp equivalent? Pliknon... help?

Ok..... I have run into some web development problems.

Unix Web servers cannot do .asp and MS SQl is not available to be on the Unix Server.

What is the MS SQL and .ASP equivalent on a Unix Server?  Is that Perl, PHP and MySQL?

If someone could help, that would be greatly appreciated.

Well, does the server have the new .Net framework on it? Because ASP.Net might be compatible with it. Have you tried that?

Other than that, with what I just said it seems that it would be PHP and MySql like you said

the .net framework cannot be used with Unix.

on my Windows server (www.egameaddiction.com) yes... it has that :)

but not on the Unix server.

now.... isn't PHP a database type software?
and you use perl to connect?
I know MySQL is a database, but I am not too familiar with Perl and PHP.

What stinks is that this message board takes up all the MySQL database space that I have.

IF this board could use MS SQL... we'd be just staying on the egameaddiction.com site.... due to simplicity... and then I can use ASP & MS SQL.

and is PHP and MySQL good to program a site in? I know .ASP is superb for that.... but I don't see much in php anymore (from what I see).

I don't think it actually needs it, but some of it can use it.. PHP is really just a server scripting language like ASP is

ok... thats what I thought...

The 1 side of the features had it under "software" the other side had it under scripts :lol

why can't things be simple sometimes, eh? :lol

Well, you do have to have the software for it installed for it to run.. that might be what that was talking about. At least it's free though.

There's a book called "Php and Mysql Manual: Simple, Yet Powerful Web Programming", i just found on Amazon.. thatmight be nice to check out

you can also check w3schools.com for some starting stuff, that site is pretty good for stuff like that

who wrote the php cookbook?

do you know if the book takes you through examples?
i like the books that take you through one example after another... IE the whole chapter is based on creating a project.

sorry for so many Q's :)

there's the thing for it.. it has some of the contents you can look through so you can see what all it covers

cool! so you have seen this book?

thanks!

I haven't seen it myself.. but I saw some people talking about it on some sites I was on. I haven't actually learned PHP.. I decided to go with ASP.Net.. as soon as I can get it running right on my pc :-\

cool... well I'll check that out :)

thanks for the help!

I wanted to do our site in ASP.... but I have a problem.... the SMF forums are in MySQL.... and that corresponds to Unix servers. :(
ASP is only on Windows servers.... so nothing is corresponding.... ARGH!!!

If SMF was MS SQL compliant... I wouldn't be having these DARN PROBLEMS!!!

I could IF I was the server admin... and had the dedicated server plan.
BUT they told me to do something like this, I would have to be the "IT" of my own server... they only provided limited support then. Basically.... you HAVE to know how to take care of the server and run it 24/7..... and how to problem solve.

Do you know how to do this with just a windows host? or a windows host that does not provide MySQL (ONly MS SQL).... and how MySQL could be installed onto the webserver...?

its a neverending spiral :lol

well..do you know how to do it?

maybe I could try :D

My database is on a seperate database only server to take the bandwidth and hits off to preserve resources for your site :)

BUT ... I only have 1 MySQL database.

if you read some of the stuff of mysql.com you might be able to get it

i haven't set that up either, not until i get asp.net working :s
