Re: Offical HALO REACH Thread
Bungie announced during Microsoft's X10 event earlier this month that the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta would begin on May 3. Now they're giving a few more details about what fans can expect, as community lead Brian Jarrard has called it a "representative sampling" of just about everything that'll be in the retail release.
"It basically will represent a sub-section of almost every main portion of the game," Jarrard said (The Lost Gamer, via VG247). "For example, we'll have a couple of the new armor abilities that we've been talking about which are sort of the new version of equipment which have pretty immense implications for gameplay." Jarrard is referring to new armor abilities that will be somewhat similar to Call of Duty's perks system, allowing special reusable skills like super-fast sprinting for a few seconds or active camouflage.
"So some of those will be in there, some of the weapons will be in there, we'll have a subset of maps, we'll have a subset of game-types, some of which are returning favorites, some are brand new that people don't even know about yet," Jarrard continued. "So, all in all it's going to be a really good representative sampling of the final game."
But it won't be a sampling of everything in the final game -- this is Bungie, after all, and Jarrard said they'll continue to keep a few secrets for the retail release. "Of course we're going to hold back some stuff as we've got a long way to go until the fall and we want people to have some stuff to look forward to," he said.
And in case you weren't aware, if you want access to the beta, there's only one way: Purchase a copy of Halo 3: ODST before May and get your packed-in beta key.
