Official Battlefield 3 Thread

Yeah, it's my only option, and a bunch of my friends are getting it for PS3 too, so it's an easy choice for me.

From what I hear the 360 version is really buggy, so you should get it on PS3 instead. :D

First off - Lies!!!!!

Don't be such a hater Stealth. :lol

Second - I have a couple of other friends getting it on PS3 too, so looks like I might get it there as well. I'll definitely be playing this more than Black Ops. :lol

I'm not just hatin! Seriously. I've actually heard the 360 version is worse, and that comes mostly from 360 players who are pissed off that their version has more bugs for no apparent reason.

On an unrelated note, now that more and more people are using the Scout class, I'm finding it more and more difficult to counter that with anything but using the scout class myself. I really hope there are not some serious balancing issues that result in teams of snipers squaring off. Hopefully maps with vehicles will alleviate this problem some as well.

For the last few days of the beta, Caspian Border is now open to everyone. Jump in, everyone! It's an awesome map and shows you what Battlefield is really all about. :)

Not sure if that is for consoles or PC only, though. I play it on PC. ;)

In other news, Alex Grondal and Patrick Bach walk us through two new multiplayer maps:

Operation Firestorm – Conquest – PC

Grand Bazaar – Rush – 360

Brand new trailer for all 9 multiplayer maps (plus an extra clip at the end for Karkand)

:D

Yeah I think PC is the way to go if it's an option.

I played the Caspian Border map on my cousin's PC and virtually all of my console complaints were alleviated. Virtually. In a map that big and open being on foot and any class but a scout was pointless. I'm hoping a map with more buildings and such might make it more conducive for other classes.

I still don't know about 64 player battles though. I always just get lost in them. My favorite moment from the Caspian Border beta was when a bunch of us spontaneously began acting like a squad, and we systematically engaged in a street-fight over a capture point. It was pretty amazing when one player was smart enough to hang back behind cover so the rest of us could respawn. I provided some cover fire and an alternate spawn point so our assault classes could storm their side of the street. Once the shooting seemed to stop and the capture point was taken, we grouped together and went building by building to clear the last straggler's out. It was a lot of fun, but it only happened once, and by accident.

If they can find a way to make map awareness a little more intuitive so I can easily see what parts of the map we own, what parts of the map they own, and what parts of the map are currently being contested, they've nailed it. Otherwise, 90% of the game is a cluster**** while you wait for the 10% that's good.

stealth toilet: That's what was so great about Battlefield 2. It had VOIP and amazing squad/team play. You could form a squad with anybody at all and go systematically and strategically to each flag and win the game. Whichever team had the better squad(s) would win.

It will all work out in Battlefield 3. A lot of the beta people were new to Battlefield and just played it because it was an "open" beta. A $60 dollar game, now? No way are they buying that. Battlefield 3 will be filled with a lot of BF veterans like myself and teamplay will work the way it is supposed to. :D

Also, if you're the squad leader, you've got to remember to give orders to your squadmates. Almost every squad I was in in the beta never had any orders… it's also kind of hard to know you CAN give orders.

But with the command rose coming back to BF3, I think it will work out a lot better. ^^
And we're getting ingame squad management.

Only thing I am not liking about BF3 is that there is no VOIP ingame. You can only use it within your Battlelog "party". That kind of sucks… :( But I don't have a mic anyway and it's easy enough to just chat to your squad.

Also, by "scout" you mean Recon? I think all four classes are fine on a 64-player map. They each have their own abilities and are balanced and ready for any situation. But that's just me.

@ your last paragraph: I do agree with that. Bad Company 2's map was kind of confusing, but I got used to it. Battlefield 3's beta map was complete crap. They claim that they've fixed it, though. Not to mention the A, B, C, etc on-screen 3D map. It was horrible! I never knew where I was going. Kept having to press M to bring up a bigger map, which wasn't really a map. I guess it was a beta. :P

Anyone pick this up on PS3? If so, add me. StrublesNBits. So far I have about 9 friends of mine who I play with that have mics. Looking for a few more.

Yeah, I had this discussion again with a friend of mine and he said many of the same things you did. I think both of you have more faith in the average gamer than I do, lol. BF3 will be awesome when I find people who want to play the game the same way I do: co-operatively and strategically. I think DICE should have thought more about making that more of a focus in the game, either through incentivizing teamwork to a larger degree or just making the whole "squad" system easier to understand and use. Maybe that's nit-picky, but it feels like there's a great game waiting to be played somewhere in BF3 - all too often it's just very hard to find.

Edit: And yeah I totally meant the Recon class, not scout ::D

I hear you. At times I feel the same. Battlefield 3 just came out a few days ago and Bad Company 2 JUST got a new patch a couple of weeks ago. So I just have faith in DICE to keep updating this game.

They're already fixing the commo-rose and "considering" things about better squad play/VOIP, etc.
Also, car horns and "love" for pistols was hinted at a few days ago. They're not done at all yet, which is what makes Battlefield so great. It lasts for years and is updated throughout that whole time. ^^
