Official Mario Kart Wii Thread

Re: Offical Mario Kart Wii Thread

I agree Hines and Cherry. I'm not looking forward to it much. Nintendo hasn't been very impressing to me lately... (Except SMG)

He says it doesn't look as good as the other ones. And isn't the longest gameplay video we've had about five seconds worth of split second parts?
Okay, fair point. I guess you really can't complain about lack of change when so little is known about the game.

And what was Brawl? A disappointment?

To her (and a lesser extent me), yeah.

I honestly don't see how. It delivered everything I could have wanted from a third installment in a near perfect series. The only thing I can think of that I wanted but didn't get was that we still didn't get to use Ganondorf's sword, but that's a miniscule gripe. I couldn't care less.

same here.... and well there should be something new with this mario kart that we still don't know... i mean the DS one had 36 different karts, on-line, mission mode.

You see the problem there? This is fully based on what you think not what GM or I thought about the game.

Personally, I would have liked voice chat, less lag in multiplayer matches that had more than two people, a decent adventure mode, and have less clones. For example, Gannondorf should have gotten his own move-set, instead of being a stronger, slower version of Captain Falcon.

None of this is really relevant to MK Wii, so let's just forget it, anyways.

Um...yeah. I wasn't too happy with it. I played Import, whoop-dee-do. Didn't feel the need to play it after that. Not even the English version I'd play. I like Nintendo, but not too impressed. M'kay?

Re: Offical Mario Kart Wii Thread

This is supposed to have 16 player online right? Or something like that?

If Brawl's having a hard time allowing 4 players to play together online, I think I'll wait a good 6 months to a year for them to get 16 players online at a decent speed.

Re: Offical Mario Kart Wii Thread

To be perfectly honest, I just don't see how much fun it can be without voice chat. I certainly don't think that every game needs voice chat, but for games online where you're going to be playing against a lot of people, it's just stupid not to have it. I will probably still give Mario Kart Wii a chance, but I think not having voice chat is going to hurt it a lot, just like SSBB would have been that much better if they had included voice chat.

Well.......let me just say, you can no longer complain about Halo 3 doing nothing different...

That was never my complaint, Hines. My complaint has/always been the stupid melee system and weapon balance.

Famitsu's Mario Kart Wii review finally came in.

They loved it. A 37 out of 40. They online mode they praised, the controls were deemed comfortable.

well if it's the same for the USA version then is a must buy for on-line only (considering single-player is not good in a mario kart) but i guess i'll hold my horses and see if any of my friends get to buy it

Re: Offical Mario Kart Wii Thread

Well, I guess the controls are going to be weird, though. You can do all the necessary functions with the Wii-mote, but not with a Classic Controller or Gamecube controller. o_O

We know that Nintendo has been working to make its classic franchises more accessible; Super Mario Galaxy was easy enough to complete, even if it was a bit harder to get all 121 stars, and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass gave us a simple touch interface with even simpler puzzles. When Mario Kart Wii was announced, it came with the bold proclamation that Kart vets and newcomers alike would be on equal ground, and we had to wonder what that meant.

We may be getting insight now, thanks to a new fact sheet on the game from Nintendo. In it, the four control schemes are outlined: Wii Remote alone, Wiimote with Nunchuck, Classic Controller, and GameCube Controller. But longtime fans of the series might be a little put off by the Classic Controller description, which plainly states, "players cannot perform certain moves with this control scheme." Uh oh. The GameCube description is similar, saying "some maneuvers cannot be performed."

The press release doesn't describe exactly what maneuvers it refers to, so it's hard to tell how much this will hamper the experience. It's also difficult to fathom how controllers with more buttons will have fewer functions. The Wiimote and nunchuck combination doesn't have any such warning, so those looking for analog steering controls at least have that option available to them. We can't say if this is a game-breaker until we get our hands on it, but it's certain to upset some of the hardcore Kart fans.
