Oh man oh man oh man! I'll jump into this with a personal experience.
Some of you may know that I have a few hobbies. I love video games. I play the classics all the time. Yet I also play around with cars. Working on them, etc. I have another interest that has been almost an explosive issue (pun may or may not have been intended). Firearms.
In North Carolina it is legal to open carry (having a pistol exposed while in public). It's only illegal where signs are posted. And really all they can do is tell you to leave. Anyway, since doing this, I have seen people almost come apart at the seams while at a grocery store. People assume I am breaking the law because they are uncomfortable. They often call 911, only to be told it's legal. A friend of mine was in Wally World with his wife, when the police showed up because someone called 911 and was hysterical. The police laughed, asked to see his pistol because they though it was cool. Talked about guns, and then went on their way.
Seems that there are people out there that under no circumstances will they give in to the facts and change their mind. I often think it simply boils down to pride. Being right cultivates a prideful feeling that any person loves. Humility, although the correct path, is seldom desired. Because it is sometimes accompanied by the feeling of shame.
