Oscar 2009 - what your think?

What are you think about the Oscar 2009? Why this is stupid indian movie won to innumerable nominations!??? I'm dissapointed!
I think Benjamin Button was the best!
What you think?

You know man, these critics always pick the foreign films that nobody sees (or even heard of in most cases).

I agree with you though, Benjamin Button is the best.

Cause people don't look outside of the mainstream when it comes to movies.

And Slumdog > Benjamin.

And just for the Record, Benjamin Button had 13 nominations. Slumdog only 10.

No way, the Academy hates foreign films (one of 30 different genres they rarely give credit to). Like 5 foreign films have been nominated for best picture in the 80 years that they've been handing out Oscars.

Slumdog definitely deserved it, IMHO. It was just so unique and new. Now, if only they had given TDK the nominations it deserved...

You have to admit, though. There's been a higher proliferation of foreign films taking the shine for the past couple years.

The Oscars were such BS. Dark Knight should have swept everything, or at least been nominated for a helluva lot more than it was. Its popularity with the public was outlandish, it was the second highest grossing film, ever. And its critical acclaim during the year was equally high. It was a shoe in for a hefty amount of awards, but it totally got the shaft.

And to what, I ask you? A bunch of films that were only noticed for their politically controversial topics, or their contrived self-affirming Hollywood sentiments. The Dark Knight got panned because it was as entertaining as it was preachy, and the depth of message in the movie was subtly hidden under a variety of masks. But with the movie's constant assertion of the importance of symbolism I would have thought its political message would have struck those responsible for awarding its merit.

And where was The Wrestler in all of this? Easily one of the most honest and touching films of the year goes completely unnoticed by an academy that is too caught up in its own misplaced sense of pride and prestige. Ironically, its failure to make a splash on the main stage only makes the Wrestler that much more truthful and beautiful, though I highly doubt such considerations were made by the academy when making that decision.

Perhaps I speak too quickly, or too harshly, about Slumdog, Benjamin Button, and Milk, but I certainly do believe Oscars were given out for reasons other than each film's merit. To which I can only say, get off your high horse Hollywood, you're not gonna change the world by handing out a few awards. Stop trying to act progressive and forward thinking and instead focus on recognizing the achievements of incredible films.

You should know better by now. The Academy never nominates films from countless genres, including action. I'm not justifying it, but I thought pretty much everyone was used to unbelievable bias on the part of the Academy. XD

Honestly, I really don't think this is fair. While TDK should have won more, many of the other films nominated were great in their own right. Slumdog in particular was a great film on its own merits that explored no politically controversial topics and was not the standard Hollywood fair (part of what made it so great was its uniqueness and how little it resembled most of the crap that comes out of Hollywood). It was just genuinely great movie, one that is easily on the same level as TDK.

It got a couple of acting nominations, but it was (perhaps wrongfully so...haven't seen it yet) largely absent from the awards.
