Ouch, Nintendo Wi-Fi lost the edge, but a bonus awaits

This would disappoint me big time. Ps3 does have this for free.. EXCEPT I am not sure if Guitar Hero 3 content is free... and MMO's, I don't know how those operate on the PS3.

I think only MMOs should have to be paid for, and that should be for server upkeep.
I agree but I don't agree on the same hand. I am 50/50 on the MMO issue.

Exactly, but Animal Crossing is debatable since it's a kid game.
Not necessarily...

I hope Nintendo keeps their stuff free, otherwise... they will lose a bit with me as well. It's hard to say that because everyone has costs... but if battle.net and many other PC game servers can be free... Nintendo can have free service as well. I don't necessarily like downloadable extras anyway... something just doesn't seem right about it.

It's cool they can update a game...etc ... but I am not fond of the idea and being able to release a game before it is ready to be released.

Reading.
SAN FRANCISCO -- Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection service has always been entirely free of charge, but the company will soon introduce a pay-to-play service for some games, it announced at Game Developers Conference.

"Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Pay And Play" will let users subscribe on a game-by-game basis to certain titles. Nintendo project leader Takashi Aoyama announced the service at GDC, but did not say what upcoming games would require payment for the service, or how much they would cost.

Hmm..I didn't see the word "majority" in there at all. But maybe "some" and "certain" will only really mean a few.
Yeah, some usually means the minority. I did hear third parties have the ability to choose, though, so odds are most third party games will be Pay-to-Play.

Yeah, but this is coming from Nintendo. You can't believe Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo until anything's set in stone.
They still want the majority of their games to be free, they want an easy, cheap way to get online, they won't charge for most of their games.

Nintendo's already pulling a ton of tricks on us, so I wouldn't say they "won't" because it might happen eventually. I'll just pray that they won't.

But, once again, third parties are probably free to choose, and that will be the majority of online games.

Yeah, I'm just hoping the Wii ends up getting some really good exclusive non-pay-to-play games. It's library is looking pretty weak right now. They need some solid exclusives to balance out in case 3rd party developers really do eat up this pay-to-play garbage.

They already have free Mario Kart and Brawl. Only other series they've made that might work would be Pikmin and...uh...wow...just Pikmin? Still, they can make new games. Doesn't help most third party games will be crap, either.

Yeah, Mario Kart and Brawl can only go so far. I'm hoping for some surprises out of Nintendo this year. Nice surprises. Not this crap.

Those are two of their biggest series, I wouldn't underestimate them. As shown with the DS, a few key series are all Nintendo needs to get a lot of people to Wi-Fi.

But people aren't going to be satisfied with 2 titles throughout a system's life span.

hey i wonder if they are gonna make the next zelda four swords on-line? XD
That's a pretty good idea, though they'd need to fix a lot of things.

yeah... now that i think about it, they better leave it like adventures but instead of GBAs , we use DSs. still on-line mode would be pretty sweet
