PC Gamers -- Quality or Performance?

When setting up graphics settings for your games, do you prefer graphics quality, or gaming performance? Would you rather have a high FPS count all the time, or take a framerate hit to bring up the eyecandy?

Sure, people have good enough computers to do both, but if you could only pick one, which would it be?

For me, I'd definitely say performance. I don't care how awful the game looks, just give me 60FPS. From there, I'd try to fit in at least a 1280x1024 resolution. Depends on what kind of monitor I'd have to deal with. How about yourself?

if its a multiplayer game..i try for 60-70fps on a good resolution. i do this so im not lagging at all in an intense game (COD4/ Battlefield/when i played WoW)

if its a single player game, i try for eyecandy (about 40fps is my over under point) if i notice it getting REALLY choppy i bump down the settings.

YMMV. and hopefully soon ill be getting a 5850, so i wont have to worry about it at all :-D

I try to shoot for right down the middle. Part of why I love PC games is the great visuals, but I don't want to sacrifice too much performance or it's just not worth playing. My cut off point is right around 30fps. If it goes lower than that I change some settings.

Visual lag is a bad thing. I would rather be shooting at low resolution block characters and getting kills than have the prettiest graphics.

That being said, using a Core 2 Duo, an nVidia 8800gt, and a Samsung 740n monitor gives me pretty decent framerates at high settings and 1280x960 resolution.

Overall, performance is most important, but once performance is met, bring on some eye candy!

I'd have to go for Performance too. Heck, with my Pc alone, I'm fortunate to find any online MMO's (good ones) that it can handle!

But I love immersing myself, so at the cost of lagging like a snail on glue, I take my chances... at least for a scenic screen-shot... >_> then it's back to max performance again...
