People celebrates the Atari 2600 as the console that “ruled the interactive gaming world” in the 1980s – no mention of the original Nintendo, Sega Master System or even Coleco Vision.

Mega's 2 cents of RAGE:

Okay let's get the facts straight, People's Magazine can suck my Bubble Bobble! Atari caused the market crash in 1983, It almost destroyed the then-fledgling industry and led to the bankruptcy of several companies producing home computers and video game consoles in North America. It was thanks to games that sucked from poor programming and badly rushed, such as Pac-Man 2600 and E.T. for 2600. In 1984, no body in America wanted to buy video games during that year since it was a dead profit. Nintendo saved everyone's hiney in the industry in 1985, became insanely popular in 1987, AND still holds the record for the number 1 selling game. Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt. To you People's Magazine, I say, DON'T MAKE ME TURTLE STOMP YOU!!! Quit destroying history! THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE!!

obviously a supreme atari fanboy decided to write that and pretend Atari is still the best and always was the best XD

Although Atari was a force in the 70s, and had a presence in the 80s, they have no business being touted as "the dominant console of the 80s." That honor clearly goes to Nintendo.

Just another reason why the media cannot be trusted.

Nintendo and Atari both sucked in the 80's. It was all about the HAIR! :rockin

Um, I stand corrected....Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt is no longer the best selling video game of ALL time....

Wii Sports is....beyond 50 MILLION Sold (Mario had 40 million)

Interesting fact: when Nintendo turned their attention to America, they wanted to sign some sort of contract with Atari to team up (because Nintendo feared they couldn't match them), but Atari refused and then Nintendo ended up bulldozing them.

Reminds me of when Sony entered the market.
