Phantasy Star Universe

Heaven knows I'm not a PS fan, but I saw screenshots for a Phantasy Star Universe (new phantasy star!) game that is yet to be released and I'm soooo excited. It has a normal singlelplayer RPG mode and a PSO mode that's similar to the original PSO. Does anyone have info on this? release dates? if it's gonna come to the US at all?

Umm...isn't this suppose to be on Gamecube or something? I dont think its on PS2. Post some screens confirming that its on PS2, if not then this topic has to be moved to its approiate forum.

Well I just did a search online for this one and it is on PS2, wtf is Sega doing? Anyways, this game is suppose to be released 02/01/2006 and its also going to be on PC.

More info, screens, and videos! ;)

Sega.... I don't understand them... but I guess they want to try to get more appeal?

I am not sure... but something tells me that they won't get more appeal moving over to the PS2.

Bv :hat

They won't get less, Phantasy Star is a hugely awesome game, and series. I only played PSO for the Gamecube and its mediocre sequel, but the first one rocked. The card battling system was OK...

its never been a BIG game though... for some reason, it hasn't been soaked up by many.

I love the game though.... we better see a Nintendo release.... or its jimmy kicking time.

I just couldn't get into this RPG for nothing! When I played it on Dreamcast it was pretty decent but it felt like I was running around in circles hacking and slashing over and over again, really made me mad! I could of went and brought out my Streets Of Rage if that was the case.

Anyways, how is the online mode with the game though? Im pretty sure its way better online than offline eh?

I played almost exclusively offline. But really, I got sucked into the game...I had (I forget the exact number) at least 200 hours on that game. But I quit after I realized how pointless it was. Kill monsters, get items you can't use, level up, equip now usable items, kill more monsters, get items you can't use, and so on...

This game established my strong anti online RPG sentiment.

Then what's the point in even getting items if you can't use them?! :?

Have you played the game? To use ANY weapon/armor/shield in the game, you must be a certain level or have enough of a certain statistic. Once you reach that level or stat number, you can use the weapon/shield/armor.

same thing with Diablo and many other games of this type, though :)

But that is not a good thing. I never said it was original, otherwise it wouldn't be so bad. But it is just a viscious cycle that works remarkably well at sucking people into the game.

so this is not out yet?

I really hope there is a cube version.. because I want this game.

just like meatloaf said.... I'd do anything for love.. but I won't do that.... same thing applies here :lol :D

Hey guys :) anyway, PSU is only being released for PS2 and PC. The game will feature an offline mode which will be like a traditional RPG i.e. the final fantasy series, excluding FFXI of course. The online mode will be like the PSO games in the series. PSO was about spaceship named Pioneer 1 that crash landed on a planet called Ragol. Your job as a resident of Pioneer 2 was to go down onto ragol's surface to find out what happened to Pioneer 1 and it's residents. Now what character you played  was between 3 races and 3 different classes. Rangers (used guns), Hunters (Used close-combat weps), and Forces ( used magic). The 3 races were Newman ( an elf kind of race), Human (enough said lol), and the Androids.

Now I played PSO from the original Dreamcast release all the way up to the Gamecube releases of the game. Now of course I played the offline portion as well, which like every other MMORPG you create wonderful friendships with people all over the world. The people I played with on PSO I still talk to today and I even play with a few on FFXI. So a lot of what kept me playing for sure was the community.

About PSU: PSU will have some old qualities of the old game :) which I am happy about. It will involve Photon weapons of course and will include the great character creation like the last games. Infact, it will have a better one where you can customize from the size of the eyebrows to the colour of their shoes. The game will also include new places, interstellar travel, huge city like lobbies, a personal room which you can decorate and let people into, and 4 races with a new class system being introduced. The game will also include a first-time pso dual wield, in which you can equip a saber and a gun so you can swing and shoot, 2 sabers, 2 guns, 2 daggers, etc. I can go on and on about how hyped I am about it lol but I'll leave you all with a website :) which has plenty of info on it.

and i leave this thread saying I hope to see you all there and the release date as of now is May 5th, 2006

*Major Bump*

I for one cannot wait for this game. It is my 2nd most anticipated(FF12) and its coming to the 360 also... gimme a reason to keep it finally.

Anyways who's planning on getting it? Out this fall...

I wish SEGA would stop making these and do a PSV. Well, let me take that back. They can continue to make these, because a lot of people enjoy them even if I don't. I'll stick to Diablo. ;-). But I still want my PSV, damn it SEGA.
