Playing GameCube Games On The Wii

I've got a nephew that love to play Mario Kart Double Dash when he comes over. He has a Wii, and yes he has Mario Kart for the Wii. He has asked to borrow DD from me but he can't since he doesn't have the controllers. So, for Christmas I was thinking of getting him DD and some controllers. I was going to get him the Wii classic controllers but I hear they don't work very well with GameCube or N64 games and that the GameCube controller works better.

Does anyone have any idea if this is true? Should I just get him some GameCube controllers with the game instead?
 
That is correct. Wii Classic Controller and everything else cannot work with GameCube games. You need GameCube controllers.


However, I really wish Japan would release the better Classic Controller PRO in America. It actually works with GameCube games!
 
That's odd, you'd think that if one buys the classic controller it would play all the classic games. Glad I decided to ask before I buy.

And one thing I want to mention. Make sure you hunt down and get original Nintendo Gamecube controllers. They are so much better quality than any of the generic brand ones and they will last for the long haul. I am sure you already knew that but just wanted to reaffirm it :)

Yeah, I refuse to buy 3rd party controllers. It's funny, as I search on eBay and you see these 3rd party ones and they're as cheap as a couple of bucks, NEW! That right there has to tell you something. I managed to score four black official Nintendo controllers for $35. Two for my nephew and two for me! :D
