Hi, BV..This is my first post here. I remember we e-mailed each other recently regarding the NGCD, so thanks again. As far as I know, you cannot save PS2 games to the memory cards from PS1 , but you can play and save PS1 games to the PS2 mem card. I just got a new "slim" PS2, and I made the same inquiry, so I had to get a PS2 card.

If there are any PS2 games that can be used with a PS1 memory card, then they must have come out right at launch for the PS2......

PSX cards only work for PSX games.

You can only use Playstation cards with Playstation games, and you cannot save games from PS1 onto PS2 cards. You can copy them to your PS2 if you go into your browser (or whatever it's called), but you can't load them from your PS2 memory cards.

This is the reason why I got SotN for nothing. The dude was mad because he couldn't save his game progress on the PS2.

Here's what I have experienced. PS1 memory cards will not read on the PS2. So if you want to play, say, GT2, and wish to use your saved data to play, then get a PS1. If you want to save your progress of your PS1 game, then you'd better have a PS1.

PS2s can play PS1 games, but that's it. And it seems to me that Sony suckered people with their "backwards compatability" talk when the PS2 was unveiled. So a bunch of people round filed their PS1s and bought the PS2.

Again, this is all what I have experienced being that my PS1 is sitting next to my PS2...

I think we talked about this already but Im pretty sure you have a faulty PS2 because PS1 memory cards work perfectly fine on a PS2. I have my PS1 boxed up and have played Castlevania and FF VII on my PS2. No problems saving or loading.

Like others have said, a PS1 memory card will work on a PS2 but you can only save PS1 games on it. PS2 memory cards only work with PS2 memory cards.

I remember the discussion. But my PS2 seems to work fine on everything else, and I still use my PS1 for PS1 games.

A side note, is there a benefit to playing PS1 games on my PS2??

On certain games you can enhance the graphics a little bit and it can help speed up load times also. Only works on certain games though and you have to turn these functions on in the browser.

What games and what do you have to do in the browser...

I don't think there is any official list. I know it works for Metal Gear Solid.

Actually I made a mistake, not the browser, the System Configuration. Just go to the PS1 options and it should all be self explanatory. I don't know what they say exactly off the top of my head since it's been a while.

As he mentioned, there is a "graphical improvement", but it is not only marginal but crappy.

Stick with using your PSX - I do.

then how did my cousin get get motorcross AV (or whatever it is) on the ps2  to save to a psx card?

There are certain games that can do it...   Not many though.

... and there is a graphical improvement? How can that happen? I haven't notice it yet, I am just curious as to how that can happen.

He's dillusional?

Graphical improvement refers to the small smoothing effect it has on some games, similar but not as good as Bleemcast.

:lol ... I forgot to say that I saw it happen...

I see on the graphical part. I never really understood the bleemcast deal... then again, I never really looked into it.
