PS3 is catching up with the total sales of the Xbox 360

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
According to the company's latest earnings report (via Business Insider), Sony moved 3.2 million PlayStation 3 systems between June and September. During that same period, Microsoft managed to sell 2.8 million units -- roughly 400,000 less than the PlayStation 3.

Well if they only catch up 400,000 a quarter on average from here on out and they are 4,000,000 units behind microsoft, then that's 10 quarters, which is 2 and a half years.

Actually... this is rather cool.

I will be honest... I think PS3 has a better "desktop" layout... I think it is easier to see and easier to navigate. I noticed the recent Xbox background changed with the last update... it really looks more streamlined like the Ps3. Still... the 360 menus are more bloated. It takes a lot longer to look through friends... although the 360 contains more graphical representations for your friends.

They definitely do have their advantages. I would say the worst part right now is Nintendo taking the beatings it has. It has even hit me... I love the Wii... I just don't play it anymore. Sin and Punishment 2 ... I've had that for 3 months now... and I love the game. I just don't play the Wii. I need to get back to playing the Wii again.

True... assuming they don't fall below or rise above that rate.

Well considering that they sell in the range of 300,000 - 400,000 PS3's each month in just the US alone...they should be able to do it before 2 and a half years.

Yeah I say it'll take at least that long.

I'm going to have to say the opposite. I think the XMB is a lot more convoluted. Some of the options seem to be misplaced and not where you would think they would be. Even with a new dashboard, everything is a lot more stylized and easier to navigate on the Xbox.

In regards to PS3 catching up, bringing the price down to $299 helped a lot. I think people really wanted a PS3 but couldn't due to the early high price tag.

Agreed. The 360 layout is hard to navigate. I wish it was more user friendly. Hitting the Xbox button in the middle of your 360 controller is really the easiest way to navigate. Spot on with the friends thing too. I hated going through a list of people's avatars just to see if someone was on. Ugh.

Why are you using a quarter for the basis anyway, they sell about 3-4 times more than 100,000 PS3 units in a month in just one territory...this isnt 2007

I didn't say they only sold 400,00 a quarter. I said they are selling 400,000 more units than the 360 per quarter, as stated in the article.

As for the layouts. I own both systems and prefer the 360 (not as much since they changed the layout). But I've owned one a lot longer than the ps3. I also think the 360 has to many channels on it tho. I wish they would let you hide the unwanted or unused channels.
