PS3 Price........

What I don't get is why there is a 500 and 600 dollar system with the $600 having a bigger HD. I don't see the point in the $600 version unless someone can tell me something I don't know

Thats one thing that I have been trying to figure out myself for the longest! I dont think PS2 and Xbox had some kind of bundle pack on its launch days? I bet most people will be getting the $500 one and then it'll be sold out and forcing people to buy the $600 bundle.

waiting sounds real good. i'll wait um........12years.
If you wait that long then we'd be on some other next gen consoles.

Also most of the time when there aren't any good games on the launch day, so you'd probally be either watching DVD's or playing your old PS2 games.

Don't get the $500 version.... they attempted to give a more "bargain" package.... but it is downgraded... and you CANNOT upgrade it to the same system as the $600. IE the left off the Blu-Ray connection for the TV (I forget the specific name off bat), memory card slots.. and lower hard drive. BTW... the hard drive cannot be upgraded because it is internal... and unless they change how it was.... it cannot be upgraded.

Why they did that? I am not sure. At least the Xbox 360 can be upgraded from the core pack... and it's the same system as the full package system.

But there will be 2 different Sony Playstation 3 machines out there... unless they change how they are doing their system packs.

Yeah the more I hear about the $500 system, the more I'm leaning towards the $600 system.

Also as much as I want the PS3 at launch I'm starting to have thoughts about whether or not I want to go that high on the price. I mean by the time I pay for the system, tax, games, and peripherals it's going to be very, very expensive. The Wii is looking more and more like the better launch buy. I may just have to wait on the PS3 until next spring or summer. :-\

Bv if you say is true then what's the whole point in doing that? I mean of course later on when you purchase the console you plan on getting periphels and whatnot for it so wtf!? Omfg, Sony is making me mad right about now. I might just have to let this one go and just talk about it..I dont know..unless I get it for free.

But doesn't the 360 have a 20 GB drive? That seems plenty and my TV isn't anything special and i don't need memory cards cuz my friends probably won't get one.

I think that the problem lays in the saving part of things. Without the memory sticks you'll have save everything to the hard drive, though I kind of look at it in this way....I haven't come close to using up my Xbox hard drive and I save everything to it. :lol

I like both 360 and PS3. Although PS3 is that expensive i think if you are a into gaming it wont matter how much it is, also some of the games are looking good such as Devil May Cry 4 which the other 3 for the PS2 were spot on and then theres Metal Gear Solid, Golden Axe and a rumour that Half Life 2 will be out on it as well. Just looking at the list for the PS3 games, most of them are already out for Xbox 360. Don't really know much bout the difference of the specs and that but i think they will both be worth the purchase. I'm going to have to start saving now :o

The $500 PS3 comes with a 20 gig HD, but it's not WiFi compatible, isn't compatible with flash memory cards, and doesn't support HDMI output. It is not upgradeable.

The $600 PS3 has a 60 gig HD and doesn't leave out any features.

The $500 is basically the 'tard pack: the bundle that uninformed parental units will buy because Little Johnny wants a PS3 for Christmas and it's the less expensive bundle.

At least the XBOX 360 'tard pack was upgradeable; if you wanted a HD down the line you could just buy it and attach it. Or if you wanted wireless controllers instead of corded ones, you could buy wireless controllers.

The one good thing about the Ps3 that I will add is.... if you care about Blu-ray and the upcoming movies..etc.. on Blu-Ray, the $600 will be a relatively inexpensive player for the time being.  SUPPOSIVELY Blu-Ray players are going to be -$-EXPEN$IVE-$-  ... $800-1000 is what I initiallly heard.  NOW... whether or not that's true... I'm not sure.  I've just heard from a few sources that the players are expensive.

So.. the PS3 will be able to do everything stated, plus be your Blu-Ray player. KEEP IN MIND, this is only the $600 version though. The $500 version doesn't include the outputs.

Has anyone here ever heard of component cables? You'll still be able to watch Blu Ray movies with the $500 package... you just won't be using HDMI...

But what's the point if you can't get the full resolution that blu-ray offers? Not to mention that you might not even be able to play blu-ray movies since analog signals make DRM useless.

The whole point will be that you can watch blu-Ray movies on a $500 PS3...  and the component cables may not work... but chances are they will....
and can you people please stop saying the $500 PS3 is not upgradeable... it is. You will be able to upgrade your HDD, buy expansion slots for the Flash cards, and buy WIFI adapters for it.

Edit: I am not a Sony Fanboy, but you guys are spreading too many lies about this machine....

I dont get it. On tv I heard that the Blu Ray player will cost $1000. How will the PS3 cost $500 and be able to play Blu Ray?

Sony is taking a HUGE loss on the PS3 to try and make it affordable... and with the $500 PS3 you won't get the highest resolution Blu Ray has...

Yea, not to mention the graphics chip in a PS3. A top of the line Nvidia card can range from $300-600, what is in the PS3 will be even better than those top of the line cards. So, you get what you pay for really, and when it's all said and done the PS3 is pretty fair in price. I expect console prices to just keep going up and up as the demand for better graphics rises. The line between pc and console is thinning, that is forsure.

Chances are actually that they won't simply because of copy protection. Analog offers no protection while digital does, hence they might not let the $500 version play blu-ray movies because of the lack of HDMI. Of course this is still up in the air. We'll see once it's released.
