RUMOR: Capcom vs Namco and Namco vs Capcom in Development

Those aren't two interpretations of the same piece of news; if Game Informer are to be believed, then two fighting games are currently in development, both pitting the stars of Namco against the stars of Capcom

Capcom vs Namco will be done by Capcom within the Street Fighter IV Engine, while Namco vs Capcom will be done by Namco within the Tekken 6 engine. Yoshinori Ono will be heading Capcom's side while Namco Bandai's Katsuhiro Harada is expected to be in charge of the opposing project.

And now it's time for my two cents. After the on-stage shenanigans between Harada and Ono at EVO this past year this could be very true. Personally I'm at a bit of a lose for this one. When Ono was on stage teasing everyone to wait for Comic-Con for the announcement I was just running through all the games Capcom could be making... Darkstalkers 4, Rival Schools, TvC for PS3/360, SSFIVT, 3rd Strike HD Remix, and even Alpha 4 (which would have made me the happiest person alive). The thought of having Capcom vs. Namco actually disappoints me. Namco offers nothing of value to a fighter when it comes to the 2D realm of fighters. Sure we could see Kratos from ToS vs Ryu of Street Fighter but, I feel that would look all too weird. And with Marvel vs Capcom 3 in development, why announce/make another VS game when it will no doubt be overshadowed by Marvel 3.

I'll only say one thing for Namco vs Capcom. Street Fighter EX series.

I would prefer if Namco VS Capcom was on the soul calibur engine.....and I would rather have a TVC sequel for the wii/3DS/PSP, the other consoles have enough fighters. I understand these are not the best consoles for fighters but i would like to see more for them.

Well I like Namco X Capcom (need to finish that) and this is good news to me. Although I would have preferred a new rival schools but whatever, I'm happy. :)

Also I think Virtua Fighter vs Dead or Alive is needed :D

I agree with this as well. Unless it is on par with MvC3, which I doubt it will be. But then again, they're probably not going to expect much sales since Namco's fighters are geared towards 3D. Maybe it's a project the two developers just wanted to do.

The PSP has plenty of Fighters. The DS just isn't for Fighters, right now.

Stick to one game and make it as great as it can be instead of spreading out your resources. Ugh, this is sad. I have a feeling MvC3 is going to be less stellar than I had hoped.

Actually they have multiple teams specific for each game. You don't want the guy that did Street Fighter to do work on Marvel, it just wouldn't work. MvC3 is being done by the TvC guys who did a fantastic job on that.

I'm still leery. Aside from the fact that I think they could have chosen a company much better than Namco to VS.
Capcom vs KELLOGS

Haha, I would have like to have seen something like Capcom vs Konami :D

actually in my humblest opinion if they make a crossover game between capcom/namco it should be an RPG to the likes of Tales of THEN i would be insanely happy

Or they could re-release an enchanced/HD Namco X Capcom. I'd prefer that.

But in terms of them making two types of fighting games, it sounds awesome. Espically if this rumour holds up: "The Namco Bandai version will have free-roaming environment and melee combats, while the Capcom version will have 2D gameplay and projectile attacks like fireballs."

Yeah I'm gonna start imagining the Namco version is going to be like Power Stone ^_^
