screen goes black when i load game disk

I take it, it only happens on that game? Is your PS2 modded in any way? What's the age of the system? Do you view DVD's on it?
 
does it go black for just that game, have you tried multiple copies of the same game?

it's kinda rare but from time to time you can get a bad disc straight from the store. Try time same disc on someone elses ps2 and try multiple copies of the game on your ps2, from there you'll have a good starting point for troubleshooting.
