Ummmm.... I don't like the bill that was passed. Forcing everyone to purchase insurance from the private companies that they demonized throughout this whole thing? ::) What the........ :hh

Just a bad idea. Why is this the only solution to the problem? Where am I going to get all that money to pay my taxes? :huh

Sorry but I am not a supporter of President Obama either. And this is not the type of change that I would expect.

I'm thinking that this is Pelosi's baby. Obama really only sat back and did nothing but encourage them on. I think the whole drama made him look weak as our President. But that is only one man's opinion.

Nuff said. I exit stage right. (door slams)
Bravo!

Re: What Do You Think Of Obama's Accomplishment With Respect To Health Care?

I honestly have no idea. Healthcare reform is needed desperately in this country, but I honestly don't even know what this bill is actually doing. With several different thousand page healthcare bills being voted on (senate version, house version, the version they actually passed that's like the senate version but somehow different from it) in the past couple months, I would be amazed if anyone knew in any significant detail what kind of reform we actually just passed. Whatever it is, it has to be better than what we have now, though.

Re: What Do You Think Of Obama's Accomplishment With Respect To Health Care?

Did health care need reform, yes. Was this the way to do it, NO! I approve of very little of what he's done in office.

Unfortunately, it's not. It's forcing everyone to get health care. Don't have the money for health care? Then it'll come out of your taxes. The only thing I'm happy with from Obama....is the $8,000 new home-owner tax refund you get by getting a new house. Besides that, Obama's been an epic fail.

Which doesn't help me at all as someone who rents. I have no desire to buy a home in my current location.

Reasonable, of course. I'm only happy with it cause I'm getting a house soon. But if I weren't...then he's done nothing that I care about.

Re: What Do You Think Of Obama's Accomplishment With Respect To Health Care?

Again I'm no political expert, but it seems you guys are be a tad harsh on him.Present company excepted,it seems that from what I've seen and heard from some people on CNN and MSNBC notably Bill Maher thinks that Obama was trying to make friends with(he speaks of republicans)people who will never be friends with him.He also went on to say that he should be flexing some muscle.Again, present company excepted, there are a lot of people who say they bash Obama because he's to passive when in truth they're not too comfortable with the leader of their country being African American.

Just my 2 cents from a Canadian.

This really has no effect on you, but the majority of us here at EGA are going to end up paying for the stupid mistakes he makes, and I mean that literally and figuratively.

edit- That sounded a lot more harsh than I meant it to, I see where you're coming from, but as you wont be suffering from his mistake, you can't possibly see it the way those of use who will have to deal with them are.
But that's just my 2 cents, and I'm young and probably cant see quite the whole picture, so I may be wrong. Just my opinion. :)

That's a good point ThravRande.I guess being from a different country it's easy for me to be so objective. No disrespect intended. :)I do wish however he'd do something with respect to the New Brunswick Canada/Calais,Maine border. The duty free store keeps increasing the prices of tobacco related products. :)

From the day you are born, until the day you die, you will be paying for stupid mistakes made by politicians in one way or another. Obama is no different than the ones before him, and future ones will make just as stupid mistakes...And for the record, I am not for, or against Obama. I try to stay as neutral as possible when it comes to politics.

This is true, but I think he's taken stupid political mistakes to a whole new level, not to mention, as I will be looking for a regular job soon, it's going to be affecting me as well. But again, I only know so much and I may be wrong to think finding a job is going to be harder than it should be because of him...

Re: What Do You Think Of Obama's Accomplishment With Respect To Health Care?

Meh, I think the last guy we had is already king of stupid mistakes. You can thank him for much of the problems we are dealing with today. But again...only time will tell!

Re: What Do You Think Of Obama's Accomplishment With Respect To Health Care?

I don't know how to say this without coming across as sarcastic which I'm not trying to be, so please don't take it the wrong way,but has there ever been a President Americans didn't have a problem with? :)

I really don't think that there is any problem with the President's ethnic origin and the opposition that he faces from those that disagrees with his political position. There may be a small minority that fit that category and have that sort of problem. But if the President would only pull to the center he would make more friends with those republicans that seem to be stand offish. But he really doesn't have to. And he hasn't. His party carries the majority in both houses and he can pass anything that he pleases. His policies, including the leaders in both houses, are things that are so radically new to the American people. That is were he is finding his opposition. There is a resistance to the sort of changes that he and his leaders are trying to make. I think that a majority of the American people wanted change and expected it when he took office, but I think that there was a misunderstanding and a breakdown in communication along the lines as to what the American people really wanted.

I'm part Native American, a mixed breed, or mutt in dog terms. And I have no problem with the Presidents ethnic origin, but I do disagree with a whole lot of his political position. I don't hate him, so I do not consider my position that of hate as is being portrayed in the media.

What's your take on what Bill Maher said about Obama trying to make friends with republicans who will never be his friends?

Re: What Do You Think Of Obama's Accomplishment With Respect To Health Care?

I understand people don't agree with this bill, I don't at the moment, but there have been a lot of problems that were set before he was even president. So to say that we're paying for his mistakes is a little too premature. He's only been in office for a year but still hasn't made as many "mistakes" as the president before him.

In theory, it helps those who have a regular job that doesn't provide benefits. When I was in college, it sucked not having health care coverage when I was both working and going to school. Personally, I would rather be healthy and slightly in debt than to be not be in debt and be unhealthy.

Like I said before, time will tell. It's obviously going to be expensive in the beginning. It always is no matter what you're trying to do. My hope is that eventually prices will come down once everyone is healthy and the need to see a doctor drops. Again, this is all in theory.

Re: What Do You Think Of Obama's Accomplishment With Respect To Health Care?

I didnt mean to make it sound as if we were paying for his mistakes, more predicting that we will be.

We live in a capitalist country. We'll be paying regardless for "mistakes" or even "non-mistakes." But it all depends on what you consider a "mistake."

We just don't really know what's going on behind closed doors. For all we know, we could've been paying less for private health insurance if the pharmaceutical companies would not overprice medicine this whole time, for example. That's just a theory too, but I hope you get the idea.

Actions speak louder than words. The President has spoken such things but his actions have been the opposite. To reach out to a political party whose view points are the opposite from yours means you put yourself into a position to compromise. The President hasn't done that and as I have already said, he doesn't have too. With the majority that he holds, he has the power to do whatever he wants. And he can thumb his nose at the republicans, but he has Nancy Pelosi to do that for him.
