Some people are just too dumb

If you don't feel like reading it, basically what happened is a 4yo girl shot herself in the chest using her Grandmas gun. Now, it gets even worse. This happened in a frikkin grocery store and the gun was just chillin' in the Grandmas purse. First off, what kind of a retard would even carry a handgun in a grocery store? Secondly, you have to be an even bigger moron to let your 4yo granddaughter even near your purse with the gun in it. I know this kind of crap happens everyday because if idiots like this lady, but I just had to rant about this. I seriously hope they charge this piece of garbage with negligence or something >:(

Wow! That is awful! I think sometimes really old people forget that they have meds etc in their purse....so I could see how it could happen....but a gun? Apparently the gun was loaded and had no safety on then? Ugh.

Nay, I say. Maybe the woman had been mugged in the past and carries a piece just in case? I still cant defend her letter her daughter near it, though.

Well yeah, that's what I thought too. I just can't logically understand why you'd bring it in a store, though. She should have just left it in the glove box or something. Or, at the very least not put her purse with a gun in it in the same shopping cart the girl was in. I just feel so bad for the little girl.

I think the woman should hve at least taought the kid never to play with guns.

I think that makes sense.

I can't be that angry, really. I bet the grandmother is already feeling guilty enough; I'm sure she doesn't need any extra punishment on top of that. It seems like the child didn't suffer a fatal wound, but imagine how awful it would have been if she had. Yes, it could have been prevented by not having the gun in her purse, and I'm sure the grandmother is totally beating herself up for that already.

Yeah, it said so in the Link. It also said she had a permit to carry a concieled weapon and that Sams Club didnt have a "no guns" sign.

Yeah, that is how I truly feel. I was just so mad when I first heard it that my thoughts were not rational. I mean all the punishment in the world would not compare to the guilt she will have for the rest of her life. I guess the lesson to take from this is to just never carry guns around kids. I understand feeling safer with a gun, but sadly this type of thing happens more than somebody actually using the gun for defence.

There a lot of people who carry a gun with them where ever they go. That part is understandable, but why wasn't like the safety on and if she knew a loaded gun was in her purse why would her granddaughter be near it at all. That's the part that is stupid.

Well she could have just avoided having her purse in reach of her 4 yr old grandaughter. People carry guns in their purses all the time. At the last time I check it wasnt that illegal.

I've worked in factories for years and it is a common practice for many women to carry guns in their purses. Especially if they work late shifts. (There are a lot of weird people that get jobs in factories sometimes) The guns tend to be magnums. Whether this grandmother had been employed in the past or present at a factory or had a fear from things in her surroundings, it was sort-of careless to not think that a child, that age, wouldn't grab and play with things in her purse. One can so easily, in your mind, began to categorize things unconsciously as being normal stuff to throw into your pockets or purse. I personally unconsciously consider my pocket knife as a normal thing and categorize it with my chap stick and nail clippers, something that I always put into my pockets and carry around. But it could be something that a child could harm themselves or another child with. It is really a sad situation. The grandmother will relive this scene over and over again in her mind for the rest of her life.
