Namco-developed GameCube shooter Star Fox Assault will feature three classic games, at least one of them unlockable from the very start, according to Japanese reports and sources IGN contacted. The classics include titles Xevious, Star Luster and Battle City, all developed by Namco for the arcades in the 1980s.

I'm excited about this one. I hope it turns out well.

Though unconfirmed, one retailer reported that Star Fox Assault will include three classic Famicom (Japanese NES) titles as bonuses that are unlocked as you play through the game. The three Famicom titles will include classics from Namco, the developer of Star Fox Assault: Xevious, Battle City, and a shooter named Star Luster that was never released in the US.
Star Fox Assault is slated for release on April 14 in America and on April 24 in Japan.

According to IGN:

Star Fox Assault is a true sequel to the hit N64 game Star Fox 64. Working closely with Nintendo, Namco has created an all-new shooter, but hasn't lost sight of the original design. In Assault, players thrust hero Fox McCloud's trusty Arwing over land and water, but also in space, shooting down hordes of opponents at any given time. The title also features brand new ground missions. And to top everything off, there are also a wide number of four-player compatible multiplayer modes included.

Keep in mind Rare made adventures, and all their platformers follow the same formula. If it is a true sequel, I'll definitely rent this.

Even so, is anyone else a little dissapointed with the design of the arwing? It seems to be really long and jagged, more robotic than aerodynamic. I always thought it looked more like a plane than that.

I loved the N64 one, but afetr Adventure I'm still a little scared to pick this up.
same here... there are ground based attacking missions as well.... right? meaning on foot.

I WANT AN ALL OUT FLYING STARFOX AGAIN!!

but I'll still check this out.

You can use tanks in the land-based stuff. And I think it's pretty much just combat, even on the ground. It's not like Star Fox Adventures where you're like, "Ok, now I have to go get this, so that I can get this, so that someone will give me this." Etc. I don't think Star Fox Assault will feature as much absurd collecting as Star Fox Adventures did.

HERE HERE!!

Is Falco going to be in this one? I really missed him in the other one. Also I do have to admit the look of the Arwing, and the whole game from those pics, look really awful.

If anyone's interested in trying Star Fox Assault out, participating Blockbuster and Hollywood Videos will have it available for rent starting Feb. 1st.

Yeah. I rented it.

I guess I'm spoiled with Halo multi wise, but it just sucked.

The running speed was too fast, you can't turn off the crappy annoying music, small range of weapons, only 4 players, only a handful of maps, etc. Have I said enough yet? xD

The single was fine. Just fine. Only 3 pure arwing missions. The rest was on foot.

Three Arwing missions? Pathetic... didn't Fox do enough running around in Dinosaur Planet? I thought the point of this game was to have a traditional Starfox game. Hearing that was very dissapointing. I watched some flying videos on IGN and I actually thought it might turn out good, but after hearing that, I don't care how good it is, its not what I wanted at all.
