Stop Complaining!

Hi Everyone!

I'm going to address a subject which I am fed up of everyone talking about without knowing all the facts. What I am referring to is the amazing amount of scratch that professional athletes make. All people talk about is that these athletes don't deserve the money they get. What most people don't know or don't care about is just how EXTREMELY difficult it is to become one of these elite athletes.

The "NBA" drafts about roughly 1 in every 700 players hoping to get a spot at the top.Not only is it super difficult to get there, you have just as much difficulty to stay there beyond 2 or 3 years, not to mention injuries that could occur when you are in your rookie and sophomore season that could bring your desired dreams of becoming such a star, that playing in the NBA as a career, such as players like Larry Bird or Michael Jordan have done.

All of these people that sook about the money these guys make sure as hell don't mind laying down a ton of money for courtside seats do they?

I havent heard anyone talk about that.

The issue that my friends love to complain about is that Waiters and Waitresses shouldnt be tipped. now that is a hot topic!

Well I beg to differ because that is the majority of their pay. They make minimum wage at most restaraunts so the majority of waiters/tresses rely on tips just to get by. Also a good percentage of them are doing schooling at the same time so not only is it to get by, but in some cases it's also paying for education.

Also, I partially agree with you Kaz. Being an athlete is not easy by any means. The physical conditioning is brutal, the fact that any mistake you make is criticised by the public at large, and the looming threat of an injury or bad season can end your career suddenly and without warning. Still though, there are some athletes who don't deserve what they're getting paid. In the CFL, Canadian Football League, the average player makes about 50 thousand a year. Even with the cons of being a professional athlete I just mentioned, these guys still play the sport because they love playing the sport. Sure they'd like to get paid more, but they show up to practice and to games because they want to, not because they're getting paid. I respect that, and think they maybe deserve a little more.

David Beckham gets 250 million dollars for a couple seasons in the MLS, and he sits plenty of games out due to an ankle injury. I don't respect that, and I think he deserves way less.

Like I said, I agree and disagree with you on a case by case basis. Some athletes deserve it, some don't. Some people doing other, far more important, jobs that are just as turbulent, stressful, and public don't get near the amount of money some athletes make, and that doesn't seem right either.

Actually, the highest paid athlete is in NASCAR.

I never implied otherwise. David Beckham was an example of a grossly overpaid athlete, not the most grossly overpaid athlete.

Although, it may be of interest, according to Forbes (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11961246/) Micheal Schumacher is the highest paid Nascar driver, and he comes in second place to Tiger Woods. But those are annual statistics, they don't account for contracts longer than one year, nor do they account for the athlete's time spent playing their sport. Perhaps Schumacher's earnings per hour that he "works" is higher than any other athlete in the world.

I wasn't talking to anyone in particular, I haven't even read your reply. I was just saying, NASCAR is one of the lesser straining sports, I think. I know you have to have great reflexes and inside those cars gets insanely hot(can lose up to 10 pounds in a race just form fat being melted off), but there's probably tougher sports.

But doesnt the president get paid more in the long run, the same salary for the rest of his life, the best healthcare, protection, and tax exemption?

I just went to the Brickyard 400, and saw that last year the last place driver won 145K :lol

I think the athletes attitudes towards money irritate me more than their actual earnings.

OMG, I've always wanted to go to a NASCAR race.

Agreed. I don't necessarily have a problem with them earning millions of dollars a year, but for god's sake be a little grateful instead of complaining or holding out until you get paid even more money.

QFT! You already make more than 80% of the populace and you want MORE?!?!?!? WTF! I can't hold out for more at my job, they would just can me for someone that will take the crappy pay.

The millions used to go to the owners, so the athletes (rightfully so) demanded more, so then the owners had to get even more millions for themselves from somewhere and that's why it's so damned expensive to buy tickets nowadays. When I was a kid in Cincinnati the '70s and my dad took me to see Red's games on the weekends it was a form of cheap entertainment. Now, whenever people quote current prices to me it blows my mind.

Making more money than the president to play a game is ridiculous, no matter what you say.
>_> The president isn't even paid that much, his real 'money' comes from him not having to pay for most his necessities. Lots of jobs pay more than the president. If you wanna complain, complain that garbage truck drivers get paid more than teachers, just because they work for the community.

Well some teachers in some pretty classy well funded states and school systems actually get paid quite lavishly. Some garbage truck drivers and sorters get paid lavishly as well in other areas in which the people make tons of trash and other harmful chemicals.

I think it all boils down to that the people who get lots of money from these athletics and other business arent ever concerned what what they have now but rather what they dont have. Similarily in some of our lives we arent concerned or content with that which we have, we tend to focus on that which we dont have and only focus on trying to get it whatever way we can.

Ultimately, if people were content with what is their due payment and live to manage it accordingly then I could see that they could actual learn to not complain. Of course when the person isnt making much money then they have the right to complain in a sort of way, but when you are at the top of the ladder making tens and hundreds of thousands from just hitting a ball into a cup on the putting green or walking across a stage in clothes that you didnt pay for with photographers all around you or are in the seat of a car for a 3 hour race driving at high speeds for what, once a week, then I guess you shouldnt complain.

It isnt like they are breaking their backs trying to teach inner city youth, or trying to study ways to manipulate a panel of jurors to see their side of the case, or discover the latest innovation that will bring their product above the competition, or even attempt to garnish peoples votes through smiles and deceit, or even making an attempt to discover the issue that is causing a persons medical discomfort, so ultimately, because these athletes arent doing this tough job that teachers and other professionals are doing they have no right to complain for real for real.

Sabes?!

I skimmed/ignored the post, and what I got out of it was you think teachers aren't 'breaking their backs' teaching, as if you seemed to not realize teaching the youth is probably the most important job.
