Studio Cuts PSP Titles

Sony's PlayStation Portable isn't turning out to be the hot new movie platform many in the bizbiz had hoped.

With sales falling below expectations, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Paramount Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video are cutting back on movie releases for the PSP.

While comedies that appeal to the core young male gamer demo are doing well, execs say other PSP movies simply aren't selling.

Not good for those who actually like UMD movies. But I understand why they would do this. Read the full article here:

I'd rather spend less money for the DVD, where it's higher quality, has extra features, plays everywhere, and I can easily rip the movie to my media stick anyway.

Sorry, but UMD movies are worthless.

I agree, especially when these new MP3/video players hold way more movies and music for the same price.

#1 problem... THEY ARE TOO EXPENSIVE..  I won't buy one.  Maybe for $5 I would think about it... but then again,  I don't care to watch movies on my PSP.

Seriously... who would pay $20+ for titles when you can get MANY DVD's for $5.99-15.99 new.

for some reason, I am not surprised at all... you never know though.. maybe it will rebound in the future.

BV :hat

Yeah. I won't buy the UMD movies simply because of the price. Many lack special features, and DVD's cost the same if not less. They should sell them for like, $10 a piece. Then I would consider buying them. But $20 for something of inferior quality...no.

I buy DVD's. Why would I even want a movie that I wouldn't be able to view outside the PSP?

They were a stupid idea in the first place. it pretty much beats the object of having a 2gig memory stick

Actually it's the other way around. The memory stick defeats the purpose of a UMD. Just rip your DVD's and put them on your stick.

Heh. On one hand I can buy a portable DVD player for less and it has a bigger screen and can go just about anywhere the PSP can. DVDs are cheaper and I can also play them at home on my regular TV, and have enough cash left over to buy a plethora of DVDs.

OR I can buy a PSP, buy a few movies for it and be broke.

Looks like the winner is the portable DVD player, and my DS for gaming. :D

If you think about it, UMD is cheaper in some ways. I would rather save 5 bucks on a smaller movie than waste 5 on a movie I might never find again. :nope

I thought about it and in my conclusion.....you don't make any sense. Please explain yourself more.

I agree. Especially since when a movie is first released on DVD it's usually on sale and is actually cheaper than it's UMD counterpart.
