Agreed. I liked Two-Face's random outburst, which to me, felt closer to the comic counterpart. At first, it was a rational decision maker to the psychotic side, who changes his decision quickly at the flip of a coin.

Catwoman would be a better bet for the sequel.

Me and Zi discussed that if "The Penguin" showed up, that would an interesting take. Since I feel, they would make him more animal-like than human. Since this particular director likes to make things as realistic as possible, by giving more reason to the likes of why the Joker has make-up on his face and why Two-Face looks like he does. Which I applaud him for going in that direction, instead of sticking with the same ol' song and dance we know.
 
I think the riddler would be awesome. Jim Carrey made a really good riddler but if they made it darker and less humorous it would be great. That movie was really good up until the whole im gonna take over the world with my new cablebox thing. Make him a killer that always leaves riddles to his next victims. Riddler and Two-face in the third with Penguin being shown for the fourth installment would be cool too.

I agree, the Penguin could introduce some excellent conflicts not previously explored in these new Batman movies. While "Begins" was about Batman's internal struggle, and his mastery and use of fear, "Dark Knight" was more about society, and the precarious notions of good and evil that pervade humans collectively. A villain like the Penguin wouldn't necessarily represent any of that, and would instead introduce the corruptibility of humanity. Not for survival or out of fear, but out of desire and the systematic rationalization used to alleviate personal guilt. While Batman felt his actions and desire to do good in "Dark Knight" led to the deaths of innocent people, the Penguin could force Batman to confront himself and his actions not as Batman, a symbol that is and does what Gotham needs for the greater good, but as Bruce Wayne, the person he actually is. The wealth of Wayne Industries, and indeed the foundation and support of Batman, could be born out of corruption, perhaps purported or likewise capitalized on by the Penguin, and thus forces Bruce Wayne to question if the harm done to create and continute Batman's actions is really worth the harm it does to people elsewhere.

I dunno, perhaps I'm running away with this a bit too far, but I think the Penguin could embody some of these themes. The fact that he's practically a spitting image in looks and personality of H.G. Rockefeller makes his character flaws obvious, but murky enough to find similarities between them and Bruce Wayne. I don't know if this is the direction they would take the Penguin in, but it's one possibility, and the Penguin is a complex enough character that other, possibly better, possibilities exist as well.

So that's why I still say it's unexpected. Yet, yes, Ledger did play Joker the way he was truly intended. It will suck badly when the sequel arrives, because nobody can have that exact motivation again.

I saw this tonight and all i got to say is wow for me personly Heath Ledger stole the show he played the Joker spot on and how a character like the Joker should be played.

Heath should deffintly win at least an oscar for that performance even though i personly feel he should win 2 oscars.

I take my hat off to Heath Ledger who will always be missed and at least he left one heck of a memory playing the Joker.

That's speculation at best. He was apparently disturbed by the character, but there's no evidence he ODed, or even needed the medication because he played the Joker.
 
I think the real argument would be to say he was a method actor (not sure if he was but this is the only way the role would get to him). This was a great movie but I honestly don't think it was worth ALL the hype it got, but I did like to movie a lot.
 
Was I the only one who thought that Aaron Eckhart and Maggie Gyllenhaal could have been replaced by cardboard cutouts and the audience wouldn't have noticed? Every scene they were in hurt my soul and their performances were so static and lame that I found myself wishing for Kate Holmes. At least she was attractive.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, yes. I thought Aaron did a good job.
 
But to be fair, I don't think it was Maggie's fault either. I don't think Chris Nolan and his brother really knew how to write a proper script for her.
 
If this movie gets a sequel, who do you think is going to be the enemy this time? If they really wanted to go for shock value, they could go with Zsasz. He was in Batman Begins and it would be interesting to see him return in the next movie (if there is one.) :-\ Or Bane.
Who is pretty much a good guy except is scared of Batman and actually breaks Batman's back in one of the issues...
It'd be interesting to see these two in the next movie.
