The new PS2 model has snuck into America this week

lol yes seriously. :lol

And no I'm not kidding..lol. We're complaining because a NEW model that came out doesn't play PS1 games. While this will be a heart-ache for few, it's not nearly as big of a deal as it would have been if the first PS2 didn't play PS1 games. This isn't a slap in the face to their fans. Not every Sony fan has a PS1 or its games. I bought a PS2 because of the great games I heard that were coming out for it..sure the console release-day games weren't the greatest, but there were alot of games that people knew were coming out in the future for it.

So what are all the millions of people with large PS1 collections supposed to do with their beloved games when their PS2's die? Sell them? Scour craigslist and ebay for old crappy PSX's? Trust me, this affects quite a bit more than a "few" people. And yes, in my opinion it is a slap in the face because these moves affect the long time fans who have built up a collection of PS1 and PS2 games. And it's just like adding insult to injury regarding the whole PS3 not being backwards compatible. It is just a bad move no matter how you spin it, there is just no way to justify it. I know you are a Sony fan, but, sometimes you just have to admit that they make mistakes, and this is a pretty big one.

I don't see why people are in such a big fuss over this. Sure, one model has no backwards compatibility, that doesn't mean that the other models don't.

Go get a PS2 Fat and stick with that. And who said the old PSX has to be crappy? I happen to like playing PSX games on my PSX (the first start up screen sounds beast).

Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Chrono Trigger
Legend of Dragoon
Tomb Raider
Resident Evil
Resident Evil Director's Cut
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil 2 Dual Shock Edition
Resident Evil Survivor
Xenogears

RE:S is no classic. but point to Mai for the list though.

Because the soul purpose of a PS2 is to play both. Also, charging the same price as the previous model is stupid. Why pay for something that does half the job? Apparently this PS2 runs on a similar emulator chip used on the 80GB model PS3. Wtg Sony, you lazy pricks.

RE: S was no classic, true but she asked me which RE games were released on PS1 actually. That's why it's on the list.

The original PS1? Yeah, but it can only go as high into S-Video signal. I strongly agree that the original "SONY" diamond screen was sweet however.

Ok, now that kinda is getting a bit out of hand with the same price and all.

I'm fine with S-Video. I use S-video as is on my computer when I wanna use my tv for watching movies on my compy.

I miss that diamond.... :'(

And this is how I feel about Nintendo taking away the GBA slot in the new DS. It's not that big of a deal, but reason why alot of people made the upgrade is because of the backwards compatibility. You can't say they don't care about their fans though. The same way you can't say that about Sony because of a PS2 model. Now, people buy a DS so they can play DS games because they stand on their own. Well on their own. Same reason why most people are buying PS2's now. Because the PS2 games stand on their own.

at least nintendo gives us some compromise you know? in exchange of GBA games you get tons of VC games... and new features, what does this model for the ps2 does?.... not all ps2 games and no ps1 games.

i will give you that i always disliked the fact that the original DS and beyond were not able to play GB games and the DS can't connect with the gamecube like the GBA, which forced me to keep my GBA SP, and they also took the ability to connect to the gamecube with the GBA micro.

so yes i can say that this ps2 is a slap on their fans face because they did a bad job with it...

Yes they make mistakes..but this isn't nearly as big of one as some of the people here are making it out to be. I haven't seen anyone on any of the other forums I frequent complaining about this. I know they don't make up the whole world, but most people who wanted a PS2 already have one..and the one that can play PS1 games. This is the new model, no?

well is not very comforting to know that most people out there don't know the disadvantages of this model :-\, there are some people like mega that for whatever reason need or want to buy a new ps2.

Yes, and that truly does suck for them..I feel bad for Mega or anyone else who got this one hoping to play PS1 games, but it's just not the main reason to purchase one anymore.

or some ps2 games...... but you see the issue is not that what the main reason is.... the issue is that why the heck did sony take out all that good stuff and sell it for the same price of other models, you get less than of those other models, that's the issue... and that's why we ask sony "what were you thinking"?

I'll just be in the minority on this forum and just stand by my opinion then. :p

I guess my frustration is that you are defending them like they actually care about you or something. This is a business and they are greedy giants, they could give 2 craps about you or me, they want our money and that is all that matters. After that we are nothing more than an afterthought. And I want you to understand I am not a fanboy in any way, I have no bias towards any company. I am just a frustrated gamer who loved what Sony did with the PS1 and PS2, but is not happy with the decisions they have made this generation.

As if they care about me? I'm merely saying that I don't care. This, in no way affects me or any current PS2 owner. I would do the same if it were Nintendo or Microsoft. If I had a 360, and they released another one that didn't play regular Xbox games, I wouldn't be in the slightest bit agitated. Same thing if I had a Wii and they made another model that didn't play Gamecube games. It won't have an affect on me.

This takes me back to the DSi. I'll just get a DS Lite next week and not worry about not being able to play GBA games in the future model.

it might not affect everyone or you or the neighbor of my cousin, but the fact remains, this is a bad PS2 model or an inferior model. and that's what i've been discussing so far.

Inferior model, yes. I never argued that fact. It just doesn't affect me, so I don't care as much..which can't be argued either.

Fair enough. But if you don't care then just admit it's a horrible decision :D
