The Offical ROCK BAND 2 thread

Harmonix has positioned Rock Band 2 as the next phase of a platform -- not a new game that requires new peripherals, but an addition to the first for early adopters and a reinvitation for those that haven't yet joined the band. And the company looks to be following through with that promise. Kotaku reports that a transcribed interview from IGN Insider claims all songs from the original game will be available as free downloadable content in Rock Band 2, possibly doubling its setlist right off the bat.

On top of this juicy bit of info, there are rumors circulating that suggest two completely different setlists for the game. Last week we shared an early look at the list of songs from a screen cap, and both of these leaked setlists have a lot in common with it. Both include almost all of the songs from last week's list, with the exception of "Kids in America" by The Muffs, which only appears on the first rumored list. With two track lists competing this way, one of them could be pure bull plop, or either of the lists could be mixing in planned downloadable content with songs that will actually be on the disc.

We'll continue speculating on the musical offerings in Rock Band 2 until Harmonix gives us the official skinny. In the meantime, bask in the knowledge that Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer," Foo Fighters' "Everlong," The Presidents' "Lump," and Modest Mouse's "Float On" appear on both lists, among many others that overlap. Those choices, at least, seem pretty likely.

If you're afraid of getting a glorified song-pack, Harmonix has a handful of new features in store that they hope will assuage your fears, and they all seem to revolve around the user experience. That means no new instrument types and no fancy, new graphics, but a whole lot of what you love about Rock Band 1 has been fixed up and added onto. We got a chance to check the game out at EA's EA3 event last month and EA shared a fact sheet with us that lays out all the new features.

The sequel's major feature seems to be "backwards compatibility" – that means all your previously purchased DLC will work, no need for redownloading or authorizing. It just works. The same philosophy extends to your equipment: all of your Rock Band 1 equipment will work with Rock Band 2.

My prayers have been answered!!! They put old Linkin Park on there. Finally.
Don't consider that the real list at all. Like I said, it has no Freezepop, or songs that have been said to be in, and the GnR song doesn't exist.

Sucks for non-360 owners that M$ paid the money for this to be a timed exclusive. Oh well though. I'm patient.
Not really. It's a small wait as is, and besides, with DLC still working on both, it won't exactly leave anyone in the dark for new music.

you know i completely missed it last time i looked but here goes ahem...
