And Dart are you serious? I mean 4 shoulder buttons make games like Madden, NBA Street, and FPS easier to play. Madden needs them so you can stiff arm and juke at the same time without letting go of turbo. NBA Street needs them so you have more options when doing tricks to get trick points. FPS need them because when you play games like Halo you can shoot, throw grenades, change grenade type, and turn on your flashlight without letting go of the right analog stick which you need to aim. Plus almost all games that I play do use all the button and I don't really think it's that complex nor do I think the buttons are useless.

That's fine. I don't play any of the Madden games. One day if I choose to, I am sure those buttons will come in handy.
But when it comes to this controller, I think it has amazing potential. I guess I am one of the few who sees this. And that's fine. But remember, if the controller is also based on movement, then that adds six "buttons" simply by tilting. Add that to the D pad, and the four "hard" buttons, and that's eleven total. Compare that to a Playstation's 9 buttons ( I am counting the D pad as one button) and two analog controllers. How many total?? Hm. Seems like it's eleven to me. Not counting Start and Select on either controller. Nor am I counting the Playstation's Analog button.
You can say it's the same box with a new bow. And that's fine. I personally like the design and I am optomistic on the whole Revolution platform.

Re: The Recently Revealed Nintendo Revolution Controller

I voted like an optimist. I think this will be an awesome change from the norm. And being a fence dweller in my opinion isn't a great way to stand on this issue. Sorry G&G. :D

I just think they are setting themselves up for even more discrimination than the Gamecube got...

Re: Here it is people the moment we've all been waiting for

Alright, so far I've been criticising this thing very heavily, and until now I didn't realize that I hadn't mentioned anything I liked about it, so here it is.

I think this controller could be useful for an FPS game. Actually pointing something at the screen and shooting like a light gun is fun, but I also remember my arms getting tired after awhile of playing light gun games. I've always thought dual analog was a poor but sufficient alternative to a computer mouse, this could make console FPS'ing a lot more like its PC counterpart. Which can be a good or bad thing, depending on what your thoughts on PC gaming are. Either way, I'm curious.

And secondly, I do think there could be some fairly cool games for this. Obviously Nintendo designed this controller with 1st party games in mind (just like the GC controller) so maybe they've got some really good ideas and examples of what is now possible. I am also somewhat excited to see what kind of games will make up the laucnh line-up.

Games like Mario Party and Wario Ware are going to have a field day with this thing, which will be really fun. But games that are based around minigames aren't enough. I'm still skeptical that a game can be taken seriously with something so... gimmicky.

So basically, I'm curious to see if Nintendo can deliver on this, cuz they've got a lot to prove and if they can back it all up, more power to them. There is potential that I see in something so radically different, and there will probably be some killer titles for the system. However, I really don't see that happening.

Now, back to criticising...

If some people cant look past the graphics to see what I believe is a decent zelda game then, then thats their choice. Just because a change makes you say "I may not like this" does not gaurantee that you wont. Im sure you heard the phrase "Dont knock it till you tried it."

That's exactly what I've been saying this whole time. The problem is I've heard very few "wow that looks amazing" comments vs. the "I'll wait until I play it before I declare it good or bad." Nobody seems to automatically think that yes, this is a revolutionary idea. It seems "benefit of the doubt" is the main attitude towards this thing. Everyone's just kind of holding their breath, hoping that Nintendo can pull something out of their bag of tricks that makes this a revolutionary idea.

its funny how you heavily chastise a controller and company every thou you have never used the interface before

you being a "hardcore" game would have no idea weather a non-hardcore game would want to pick up a revolution

I don't consider myself a hardcore gamer. In fact, most of the games I play are popular with the mainstream, so really I fit in much better with the casual gamers. I just talk about games more than the casual gamer does. And no, I have not used the interface before, but from what I can imagine it will be like I don't like it. And at this stage of the game where no one here can say from personal experience how it feels, our gut instincts on it are all we have. Anything anyone says about it is pure speculation, so don't get on my back about it when everyone else is doing the exact same thing.

Re: Here it is people the moment we've all been waiting for

The other moment you've been waiting for: Me, the resident Nintendo fangirl, to give my opinion on the controller.

When I saw a picture of it, I was like WTH is that? But then I saw footage of it in action on G4, and I was like, "Man, that is so cool."

It has so much potential it's crazy. It's going to be like the DS where people were like, "The DS looks too hard to use! How can you play normal games on that? That's such a gimmick!" And now it's racking up sales with games like Nintendogs and Advance Wars, with Mario Kart and Animal Crossing on the way.

The only thing I would be worried about is racing games, but I will probably buy those for XBOX 360 anyway.

Re: The Recently Revealed Nintendo Revolution Controller

I'm totally excited for the Revolution and the controller. I can't wait to see what Nintendo does with it. It looks like they are going in an exciting direction.

And...I have my XBOX 360 for conventional games and controls. :D

Thats what Ive been saying the whole time, except im being a little more optimistic.

Everyone's just kind of holding their breath, hoping that Nintendo can pull something out of their bag of tricks that makes this a revolutionary idea.

But the reason for that is because of how drastic the change of the controller is. It's natural to be a little skeptical, I know I am. Like I said in a previous post, I wont be surprised if it failed.

And no, I have not used the interface before, but from what I can imagine it will be like I don't like it. Same here this is how I feel.

Only if they dont deliver with the games. This controller is supposed to enhance games. And I really hope they do.

Re: The Recently Revealed Nintendo Revolution Controller

I am sorry, but Nintendo seems to be the only hardware company that actually innovates at all. Sure, some of their stuff has bombed. But think about how revolutionary most of their stuff has been:

-NES
-Analog stick
-Game Boy
-GBA
-DS - not just gimmick games. Have you played Advance Wars or Kirby's Canvas??? They ROCK!
-Even ROB the robot

I love Nintendo!

Sony and MS just produce flashy copies.

I think the controller will work beautifully, and be more intuitive then the current lot.

Re: The Recently Revealed Nintendo Revolution Controller

It doesn't matter whether there is change...it matters if it is for the better. Nintendo (or at least the fans) have complained about the lack of ports and third party games. This will only make it worse.

Re: The Recently Revealed Nintendo Revolution Controller

I guess that really is a good way to look at it. But I still can't help but think what's going to happen to the Next Melle, or Zelda with that controller.

Re: Here it is people the moment we've all been waiting for

Well, like I said before. I am optomistic about the whole Revolution platform, and I believe that it will be very successful, dispite what the nay-sayers think.
And as we all know, Nintendo as a company is not stupid. I am sure they put this design through months of testing. They also know what it takes to makie a dominant console.

You are right..... I sat back down ... re-read what exactly the controller can do... and this controller HAS the potential to score it decently with FPS games... although I am a little worried about the button layout......  Why the opinion change you might ask?

Did you all read the article in which the controller movements can act as mouse look WITHOUT lag ....   Yes, they stated without lag (1up.com did).
That actually makes me happy.  they are stating that you no longer have to control the mouse look with your other hand..... you just tilt the controller.  I seriously think this could make things big.  IE in a pilot wings demo they had... you can control the play by tilting the controller.  The people who play tested it said its actually VERY responsive, intuitive, and easy to get ahold of. In MEtroid, instead of having to move with 1 hand and look with the other, you can control the look just by tilting the controller as you move..etc. (that is what I meant by mouse look.... sorry for using a pc term).

I missed that the controller could to this... and it solves nearly 85% of the dillemmas I was having with the controller.  I was trying to figure out how FPS games were going to be played on it... as well as almost any game that came out besides puzzle games :lol ... but now with the movement of the controller acting as a control as well.... well.. that changed my opinion totally.

we'll have to see how it plays... but I have reformed my opinion... and I certainly think this controller has the potential to revolutionize gaming..... no pun intended.

We'll see if it works.....

Dont forget BV that they are making a shell for the controller so that you can play old-school games.

they are?

did you read the part about how the controller was used (what I am talking about in the last post?)

Re: The Recently Revealed Nintendo Revolution Controller

I've done a 180 with my opinion from hating it to loving the idea.... but I want to see how it translates.

My last topic in the other rev controller topic states it all.... and in detail.. but the way you can use the controller itself to look around (by motion) .. that solved 80% of my complaints.
Now... I'll have to see what they do about the button layout.

I voted it can be revolutionary.... especially if they can get this done right.

Huh?? Sorry, I saw the pictures but didn't read any of the article. So if they are making a shell to allow gamers to play old school games, then why are there people who are complaining??
