Thinking about getting a new PSP

Ares

Ares God Of War
So I never got into this handheld and I dont even really know many people with it.

I heard they are coming out with a new edition pretty soon. Anyone know the exact date ?

I would obviously wait for the new one to come out.

I was just wondering how the battery life is and what are the "need to have games"

I think Strubes is also thinking about getting one, so this might be helpful for him too.

i urge you to get one, despite what people say about them. lumines, daxter, the grand theft auto games, and all the rpgs make it worth a purchase.

Well I dont think I would really be into Lumines or Daxter.

I could see me buying GTA, Winning Eleven, FIFA, maybe a golf game, Madden.
I heard that Oblivion might be coming out for it, so prob that.

1. I was wondering what the battery life was like on it.

2. Are teh dead pixels still a problem. I remember that many people were complaining about it.

3. How is it with WIFI ?

I've had my psp since they first came out. Battery life fully charged on lowest brightness setting is over 7 hours, on max brightness it's over 4.

Dead pixels have never been a problem for me.

I've never personally used the WiFi but I hear it works great.

lumines is a cool pick up and play game, and daxter is your standard platformer, not meant for everyone.

battery life if frankly terrible. its about 3-6 hours depending on how you use it, with wifi and all that. streaming data from a disc also drains it rather fast, such as in the gta games.

dead pixels are not a problem anymore due to patches, and are probably nonexistant on the newer slim psp

and finally, wifi works great. just set it up with your access point and go. the web browser is terribly slow, but its understandable for a handheld console. i mean, it blows the ds web brower out of the water any day, and you can save any images you want, like off of google for example, and make them your wallpaper on the psp menu. so its pretty cool.

I like it except for the battery life. With rpgs it drains pretty fast.

I'd probably wait for the slim PSP, since it's supposed to be a little bit better.

My recommended games:
Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology
Tales of Eternia (import from either Japan or Europe)
Parappa the Rapper
Castlevania: Dracula X (coming out soon)
Jeanne d'Arc (coming out soon)
Brave Story
Valkyrie Profile
Loco Roco
Daxter
Lumines II

Wow thanks guys.

Well everything sounds good but Im worried about that battery...

Do you guys play it plugged in when you're at home ?

I usually play it without it being plugged in because I don't really like the cord. But if I need to charge it and I'm in the middle of a game I'll play for a while with it plugged in while it's charging.

that was my next question.

If you're playing the psp and the charge is getting low can you then plug it in and continue playing without restarting the system ?

or if you're playing a game with the chord plugged in can you then un plug the chord without restarting ?

Yes to both.

The PSP's green power light will start flashing when the battery is low. Sometimes I don't notice; I've had the power cut out in the middle of a game twice because of that. But the good thing is if you plug it into the charger fast enough and turn the system back on, it will actually retain memory of what you were doing, and you can start where it cut off. :)

wow thats awesome.

so yeah im definitely thinking about getting the New Slim PSP. Im just worried about the battery life.

Oh and another thing, I dont want to know how to or anything, I just wanted to know about the whole issue with Firmware.
So whats the deal? People can downgrade to a certain firmware to get emulators and such? I was just wondering.

Yeah, but if you want a PSP just to play SNES games, it's a waste of money.

as for rechargable batteries, guys, listen up for a second.

dont play your devices while plugged in, and this goes for laptops, phones, ds, psp, camera, etc...

let the battery comepletely run out, and then charge it comepletely every time. this will make the battery last a LOT longer.

charging them whenever is terrible for them

fhq and cherry, dont argue, this is very true.

Judging by video game systems life, you don't even need to listen to that to get the full use anyways.

Because of the low sales, you pretty much can cancel out more than one or two good games coming out for it.

The sales have actually been quite good. Nothing compared to the DS, but they've sold about 25 million worldwide, and we have God of War coming...
