Gates Interested in Nintendo
Will the big N ever consider a proposal?

August 04, 2004 - Bill Gates is still very much interested in purchasing Nintendo, according to German financial magazine WirtschaftsWoche. The publication quotes gates as saying, "if Hiroshi Yamauchi phones me, I will pick up at once."

Granted, that can mean a great many things. But Gates went on to say that if Yamauchi expressed interest he would present Nintendo's former president (and largest shareholder) with an offer immediately. This wouldn't be the first time Gates has publicly announced his desire to acquire Nintendo, which retains its status as the most successful business in the games industry.

Gates courted both Nintendo and Sega just before announcing its entry in the console market two years ago. In fact, the decision to launch the Xbox may stem from Microsoft's inability to buy either Nintendo or Sega. But will Yamauchi ever consider? Will a union between Nintendo and Microsoft ever occur?

Considering Nintendo's position, it seems unlikely. We'll keep you posted on all the latest buzz.

Listen to what I say here and now. I know Nintendo is not selling out... I know they never would.

IF AND ONLY IF Microsoft ever buys out Nintendo....... I Am done with console gaming personally.
I will still sell consoles.... and whatever..... but I will be totally done with Console gaming and it'll be PC gaming from then on out.
mark my words

But I know the odds of this happening are about the chances of getting hit with a meteor and lightening at the exact same time.

Hmm lets hope its not true. But like u said the chances of it happening are like a million to one.

Prob just a rumour/hoaxes just like the one about nintendo wanted to buy sage out.

Well lets hope not, bill gates would do anything to push other compertition out the way.....greedy ...

Buying out is too easy :) he knows he couldn't create the killer games Nintendo does. :)
Might as well buy the company/people that make them then :)

regardless.... since Nintendo is the #2 software producer in the world, #1 hand held maker, #2/3 console maker (IMO tied with Xbox # wise).... I highly doubt they would sell out like that.

As cool as that would be, more consoles equals more competition, and more competition equals better games.
yeah... I could just imagine a Super Mario Bros. Microsoft style.

It would be like Crash Bandicoot meets Raymen ::)

Well, not necessarily talking about games in the same genre. You know, if Nintendo just released 5 exclusive huge hit titles, then Microsoft and Sony would most likely be prompted to make some exclusive hits.

Sony would be hard pressed to overcome a competitor that powerful though. With Microsoft's strength in Action/Shooter and online games, and Nintendo's strength in most of the other genres, Microdo (working title) would pwn all! :lol

Actually... Nintendo SHould just buy Microsoft's Gaming division :lol

As an overall company.... they do not have NEAR as much money... BUT if you seperate out the Xbox division from the rest of M$oft... I bet Nintendo could get a nice 50-51% of the the Xbox and still have there normal ops running.

Well, Nintendo has stated many times that they are a business, they are there to make money. If, and this is a big if, they start losing profit, customers, etc., they may be forced into some kind of deal with Microsoft to save the company. Now, that's a long way off, as they just doubled their profits and whatnot, I'm just saying, 5, 10, 15 years down the road who knows?

As long as it wouldn't effect the games and systems Nintendo produce, it doesn't matter to me. But that probably wouldn't be the case, so Gates can keep his greedy hands away!

When Microsoft bought out Rare, everyone was excited. The only game they have made was the horribly made Grabbed by the Ghoulies. Not exactly the Perfect Dark Zero everyone wanted. But Conker Live and Reloaded should make ammends for creating that other crappy game.

Ya, from what I hear, and having played the original, that game will bring Xbox users countless hours of fun.

\hopefully...
no offense to anyone, but a lot of the original RAre people are gone. They left when Rare was taken over.
I wouldn't say it'll be all that good yet. But we'll see.

As for Nintendo.... how long has it been in the family? I mean, Nintendo was started up in the 1800's .... so I read.

I highly doubt that Nintendo would sell either.

Plus... they haven't lost customers. They are extremely profitable.

double post :lol

The one thing I wish that would happen is that Nintendo would have bought Sega. But then again... Sega is just a heavy burden...... But if Nintendo bought Sega outright.... just think of all the games that went to other systems that would be on Nintendo only.

Also, IMO Nintendo was smart not to buy Rare.
I wish they would have just for novelty sake.... but Nintedo was smart not to buy them.

Live and Reloaded looks really amazing. Class based multiplayer in many different time periods, with vehicles, special abilities and all, it looks great.

Isn't it sort-of "time splitters Conker Style?"
